AC Blower / Cabin Filter

I purchased my 2015 Evo X GSR just 2 weeks ago. I decided to change the cabin filter because whe I used the AC, I could smell something funny. like gas, oil, or anything else, but nothing pleasant. When I opened up the location to change the filter, I was shocked with the condition of the current filter, and all the crap in there. See these pictures for more detaills.

You're going to want to pull the blower motor too. I bought an 02 s2000 a few years ago and the cabin filter was so full it pushed down into the blower motor dead baby mice and everything. For the cost of a filter, I now make it a yearly maintenance item.
After you get everything cleaned up with the cabin filter out (blower motor pulled, cleaned and reinstalled, you'll want to spray some lysol disinfectant into the area where the fresh air comes in from. On my honda it's under the wiper garnish on the outside of the car. Not sure where it is on an Evo X but I'm sure it won't be hard to find. Spray a light mist in on each hvac setting one at a time and let the system run for a few minutes to dry everything you sprayed in before moving to the next setting. Should improve smell drastically.

Thank. I had pulled the blower out and washed it with good water. I did not sprayed Lysol, but thanks to your adviced, I just went now to my car, and did that. I then turned on the air conditioner and I can feel the difference. Now, the car feels so fresh and clean.

It’s great to hear that the Lysol trick worked for you! Keeping the cabin filter and blower motor clean is crucial for maintaining good air quality inside your car, especially when dealing with odors like you mentioned.

Since you’ve just tackled this issue, I’d recommend considering a high-quality replacement cabin filter to ensure your AC system stays fresh and efficient. Bharat Filters offers excellent cabin, Air, Oil and Fuel filters that are designed to provide superior filtration. They effectively trap dust, pollen, and other contaminants, helping to maintain that clean, fresh air you’re looking for inside your Evo X.

Regularly replacing your cabin filter with a reliable option like Bharat Filters can also help prevent future buildup in the blower motor, keeping your HVAC system in top condition. Plus, they’re durable and offer great value for the price, making them a smart choice for ongoing maintenance.

Glad to hear your AC is working better now, and I’m sure a good filter will keep it that way!
