Need advice on build gone bad.

I’ve had my evo since 2010 and bought it with 5 miles on it. I was in Florida and started having issues with the car starting and decided to have it fully built. The “shop” had worked on a few evos before and showed me the builds, it was close to my work as well. Long story short I have paid this guy somewhere around 22k and it’s been over a year and few months. He’s been giving me accuses the whole time and has blown the motor and destroyed the clutch already. He’s keeps telling me deadlines he can’t keep. I’m usually a patient person but I feel I will never get my car at this rate. My plan is to just get the car and take it to another shop and have them complete it and seek compensation from the negligent shop for the cost.

if anyone had an attorney or shop recommendations near MS where I am now or Florida or just been in a situation like this that can shed some light it would be greatly appreciated. I really miss driving my evo.

sorry to hear. I almost lawyered up just a few months ago but didnt go thru with it. I went to justanswer .com to get some advice lol but i think it was quite helpful. maybe you can try googling for consumer protection lawyers and check out their reviews then give them a call. I think scaring these businesses with paperwork and taking them to small claims court is pretty standard.

I'm sorry to hear that. If I were in your shoes, I would shop around for several reputable lawyers in Florida (i.e. close to the defendant), and hire a trustworthy one to handle my case. First, I would get the Evo towed to a different mechanic who is trustworthy. Second, I would settle with this crook through my lawyer. I may have to accept significant monetary losses, but I do not want any dishonest people to touch my car.

In such a painful situation, another thing I may do is to return the Evo back to stock. That is, ordering an new OEM crate engine and an OEM clutch. For this, I may have to tow the Evo to a trusted Mitsubishi dealership.

Years ago I was living in Toronto, Ontario, where there are plenty of crooks who have messed up plenty of Evo's. Back then, I trusted Scarborough Mitsubishi and stayed away from the Ontarian tuners due to their horror stories inflicted upon my fellow Evo owners. From time to time, I see an Evo messed up by a crook sitting on the dealership's lift, getting repaired and restored. It would be another truckload of cash to pay the dealer. However, at the reputable dealership, the master mechanics there, most of the time, are able to restore the Evo back to OEM and to be trouble-free.

Man, I like that idea. I contacted the Florida attorney general and they sent me to the consumer protection division. Additionally, because the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS) administers provisions of the Florida Motor Vehicle Repair Act (s. 559.903, Florida Statutes), we are forwarding your complaint to that agency for review. Please contact DACS at:
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Consumer Services.

I could have avoided all this bull**** if I just went to a solid shop, this guy was close to my work but looking at the amount of loss I'm planning to faced it would have been better to just ship it out of state and ship it back. fml. I'm looking for shipping companies now.

The first quality we need to look for when doing commerce is not any bling, talent, or great price, but trustworthiness and the track recording of going above and beyond to follow through a promise. Few years ago, I made the same mistake as you did, and I lost over 10k US dollars. May we both learn, and give no future business to those who are not trustworthy.

Same exact thing happened to me, but I gave them another chance and they blew another engine. It was a Performance Shop here in Connecticut called “performance and styling.”

Most JDM tuner shops are garbage and if they blow your engine and they can blame it on something else or SOMEONE ELSE they will. Learn to work on your own car and if that’s not an option, just buy something that’s fast already and take it to the dealership for service.
