I just did this on wednesday. That connector was tough with my big *** hands, but take another look at the Op's pic of that connector:
His thumb is on the TOP of the connector, his index finger is on the BOTTOM of the connector which is what you took a picture of. The top of the connector is whats plugged into the airbag and pointing straight up into the sky when installed in the car.
I had to use both hands and put my index and middle fingers on the spaces on the sides (right where the arrows are pointing) and put my thumbs on the bottom next to the yellow cord.
You need to bring your fingers down to your thumbs to unlock the connector. In my case it slide a bit, then had a bit of resistance, then kinda of popped off after i went past that resistance.
I hope that makes sense man. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the great write up. Like others I am just planning on doing just the radio control since the bluetooth isn't to big of a deal for me right now. I do have a couple questions though. Will the radio control, and if I do for some reason decide to go with the bluetooth, work with the non navi evo..? Also, I called the local Mitsu dealer here in Colorado and got the prices for just the radio control parts and just wanted to make sure the prices sounded correct with you guys:
Steering Wheel Audio Control Switch [8701A193] – $105.24
Center Console Switch Panel [8011A267] – $15.01
Blank Button Plug Part [8050A018] – $8.41 (x2)
AWC Center Console Switch [8610A019] – $43.38
I was hoping to get the parts a little cheaper. Anyway, please let me know if anyone has purchased the parts cheaper and if so where and how much cheaper.
Thanks!

Do we need to buy the bluetooth unit to make the wheel radio controller work (aside from re pinning the harness)?
Somewhat related, but I want to relocate the ACD button from the wheel to the blank button next to the AWC button on the left of the wheel. does anyone know if that unused plug works for the ACD or do i just have to relocate the ACD plug from the center console up to the AWC button as mentioned by others?

^nope, you dont need the bluetooth unit for just the radio controls
Yea, you have to extend the wire harness and move the AWC button to the slot next to the wheel on the left.

Thanks for the reply!
I think i read it before but can someone reaffirm that there is enough wire already in place to move the acd plug from the center console to the left? meaning i don't have to lengthen it further?
also for those interested i researched prices on these parts and oemmitsubishiparts.com has all these parts plus shipping for less than mitsubishiparts.net I'm not getting the center console replacement/button blanks and it was over $30 less including shipping for bluetooth, acd button, and both steering wheel controls. I haven't dealt with them before so i don't know how reputable they are, anyone able to comment?

There is not enough wire there to run it to the console. You'll need to add wire.
