Use a heat gun or blow dryer first to loosen the adhesive tape.

Like everyone else said, I just used my gf's blow dryer and some fishing wire (I heard floss works well, too). Heated it up for a bit first, then carefully stuck the wire between the back of the emblem and the car and just worked it from one end of the emblem to the other. Use some goo gone to get rid of the excess glue. On my old car, I had to clay it once to get rid of all the minuscule stuff that was left.

if your adhesive has dry rotted i would use the eraser wheels that attach to battery drills it works really well and leaves both the emblem and the paint very clean. and if you all ready have the drill it is like a 3 dollar drill bit piece not bad and really fast.

For taking the emblems off, you can use any hair-dryer to warm up the glue - just be sure not to get too close to avoid any possible damage to the paint. If you want to play it safe, an easier method (and this is what I did).. let the car sit in the sun for about an hour or so instead.

Once the glue is softened and warmed up, fishing line works the best as it usually won't break on you but household floss works just as well. Just be prepared for it to break every once in a while, in which case you'd just take another line and go at it again.

Once the emblem is off, just rub some Goo Gone on the surface and wipe away.

Putting the emblem back is a problem. You are guaranteed to f up the adhesive one way or another. So, buy some 3M double sided foam tape, scissors, and an exacto knife. You'll have to trim the 3M tape to fit the emblem and that's a ***** of a job.

If it's a new car then the adhesive is still fresh and hasn't really taken to the paint. I pulled mine off with my bare fingers and almost all the adhesive came off with it. The remainder I just rubbed my finger over and it balled up and came right off. Then a wet cloth to wipe off the dust left behind the lettering and voila. Done.
