For those people, like myself, who have a spare parts bin from all the DSMs they've owned, might have a couple turbo timers just laying around. They're pretty inexpensive and some offer some decent features, like the Type 1. Just because their true function might not be required by all people, is no reason to not want to install one... Especially if you already have one collecting dust.

Driving slow for the last couple of minutes is more effective than letting the car sit idle with no airflow. Plus, rag on the X and turn the engine off and you'll hear the jet engine like cooling system run for a few minutes to cool the car down. A turbo timer is NOT needed on the X as it takes care of itself and modern synthetic oils pretty much eliminate coking. Of course, if you just HAVE to have one to look cool then....

+1 Just slow down and drive in an "unspirited" manner once you are close to your destination, that will do the job. That way you dont have to sit there and wait, unless you dont have the FAST system, anyways, its your choice, I prefer less clutter in the cab, but both will do the job, and driving (not flooring it) instead of idling does better.

Has anyone who was "dumb" enough to buy a TT like myself had any luck on figuring out the locking issue? Something should come up soon I would hope...

In my opinion.. you don't need one for your X as it have a cooling system when you engine reaches a certain temperature for 3 mins.. the fast key makes it harder to left your car running without the key inside.. that's just my 2cents..

+1 on that. I can vouch for the "jet engine like cooling system"

My guess is you're going to have to use diodes in various places to trick the OEM alarm into thinking the car isn't running. Essentially, prevent grounds and voltages from the timer from back feeding into other circuits.

To answer the OP's question....

The turbo timer install is very easy! I suggest using the harness....

Take off the steering column cover (2 screws underneath). and find where the harness plugs in. Should be on the left side, and it's the only plug that will fit. There's a little angled metal piece above the pedals that I 2 sided taped the little box that comes with it on. From here I ran all the wires to the back corner of the plastic piece behind the gas pedal, and behind that piece all the way to the center console. The center console comes apart by pulling out the cup holder area (just pull on it, it comes out). Then 2 screws to pull off the shifter surround. Run your wires into this area (but not in a place to get caught on the shifter.) I got my power from the 12v cigarette lighter, and a ground from one of the screws attached to the frame. E-brake wire is easy to tap into as well... There's only 1 wire that comes from the E-brake. My kit came with a wire splitter that didnt require cutting the ebrake wire... it's super easy if you have this!!. Finally i mounted the TT display in the little area below the Aux. ports with some 2 sided tape on the bottom, and put everything back together.

Feel free to mount it wherever you want, but i think taking off the dash is a ***** if you mounted it up high. The center is really that easiest.

Just to confirm.. is your car also running the fast key system? Also, what "harness" are you talking about?
Any pics would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure it'll become a sticky once there're pictures, coz there's bound to be more ppl who want to put TT on the car who has this exact problem with the fast key.

Thanks!!!!
