Very nice How to! I really appreciate your time with this, I will purchase one soon.

I do have a question though. 30% decrease seems like alot, did you notice increased effort to place into gear or missed gears as a result?

Thanks for the props, we pride ourselves on making our install manuals as complete as possible to simplify installation for the end user.

30% throw reduction is the most aggressive on the market, other manufacturers range from 15% to 25%. There is a slightly increased effort to shift as is the case with any short shifter, however it is not a huge increase and does not make the car unpleasant to drive. Quite the contrary actually, the shorter throw, lower shift knob height, and more direct shift feel when installed with our aluminum base bushings make the shifter feel amazing.

The increased shift effort of a short shifter can also be countered with the help of a TWM weighted shift knob. The heavier shift knob carries more momentum when in motion so it actually smooths out the shift.

Also, if you sign up to the newsletter at our home page: TWM Home you save 5% on your order. If you are a student or in the military you can save 10% by visiting this link: TWM Student and Military Discounts. *the above discounts cannot be combined.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks,

Kevin

the TWM shifter is awesome. Can't be beat. a shifter that's too short will require more effort....no one wants to shift like a truck driver everyday. TWM's shifter is just right, very comfortable and much better than stock.

Thanks for the props YeOldeLancer

We felt that 30% was the optimal throw reduction for the Evo X. You're right, if the shifter is too short a throw it becomes inconvenient to drive. During testing we found that the 30% reduction coupled with our dual bend to correct the factory offset to the right were ideal for daily driving comfort as well as aggressive driving.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I believe there's a group thru SEMA that you can contact. They provide help for people who modify their cars. Generally unless they can prove that the shifter effected whatever it is you warranty, it cannot void it. Unfortunately their could be some small fine print in the factory warranty saying that "any modification will void it" You should probably read thru every inch of the paperwork, and call your local dealership that you might be using for warranty work and ask them(generally they will give a stupid response, but you might get lucky and talk to someone with a brain)

Honestly though, they probably won't even look at the shifter when performing some sort of warranty work. I mean don't expect the shifter cables to be warrantied if they break or something. which I highly doubt will happen haha

Hi ice1874193,

Installation of a short throw shifter should void only the warranty on the
components that are being replaced. Since you are replacing the stock shifter components with TWM, you are still covered on the shifter by our lifetime warranty. If a dealer attempts to blame installation of the short throw shifter on other unrelated problems and claims that the shifter has voided warranties on other components of the car, there is a law called the Magnusson Moss act that protects consumers against such activity.

Here is an interesting summary of the Magnusson Moss Act:

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fraudulent activity by new car dealers.
Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

I hope this clears things up about warranty, let me know if you have any other question!

Kevin

Hey man I just installed mine yesterday and that was the hardest part. just get a flat head screw driver and hammer it in. Then do it from all angles and it'll just come off by hammering it and just moving it from side to side. Also if you bought the base bushings make sure you take all of the stock ones out then start putting the others carefully because I accidentally dropped in under the carpet so i had to remove my seat and take it out from where the amp is.

Btw the TWM short shifter is awsome. Really feels like a Evo if that makes sense lol. Great product. Very good instructions.
