basically nobody has answered the question how to install the tow hook.usdm version dont have a hole, so you have to drill.then what?you weld it?put a bolt in to lock it?but the thread pitch on the tow hook is big.by the way i got the one for mini.so what can you doto it to be secure on the aluminum beam?
Tow hook pics
Front T1R tow hook and rear Benen tow hook installed...
The installs were fairly simple. I made a custom bracket/clamp for the rear out of 3/8" 6061 which extended the tow hook out far enough to see it and for it to be functional.
For the front you need to remove the plastic cover on the left side of the bumper and then mark where you want to mount the tow hook.
Remove the front bumper.
Remove the plastic duct in the left side of the Aluminum bumper as well as the styrofoam piece.
Drill your hole
I used a wedge spacer I bought from Brafasco in order to straighten the bolt out. I placed it on the inside of the hole and it made it pretty straight with the use of just one wedge. The part of the bumper where you mount it is contoured so you need to do (something like) this or the tow hook would look too crooked coming out of the bumper.
I also used a couple more spacers on the mounting bolt to get the right length and make the tow hook more flush
Then replace your bumper and fasten with a couple bolts...line up where you need to drill out the plastic cover - or you can just leave it off if you're lazy- but I prefer to make it look nice and neat. I had to dremel mine out a bit after drilling but it's a perfect fit now.
And that's pretty much it. I hope this helps!
