Help!! Hardwire passport 8500 x 50
Tried doing a search but wanted a little more info. I want to tap into dome light for power w/ a vamp clip. How do u remove the dome light? Do u have to pry out the clear lens 1st then unscrew something? Or do u just pry the whole dome light out? Which wire should I tap into? Any help would be much appricated it seems that most peole go through the fuse box but I feel through the dome light should be easier thats how I did it in my Subie.

If your talking about the front dome which is prob what your are talking about, I believe you can pull it straight out with some pressure.
I pulled mine like 10 months ago so I can't remember exactly but I know i didn't struggle.
You can't really tell from the pic but you can see there isn't much holding it in
I hope this helps a little. GL

Do you have bluetooth?
There is no switched/IGN power in the map light. However, there is a bunch of wiring for the bluetooth mic that extends from the glovebox to the map light. You can tap IGN power into the mic wire and then tap the mic wire in the map light.
This is how I ran mine, and it works great. To get the map light out, just pull. I think down and towards the back, if I recall.

i just purchased an escort 9500ix and hardwire kit. Im going to be mounting it using this:
http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/escortmount.htm
I will probably run the power wire to the fuse box since I need to mount the led/mute button module near the steering wheel anyways...

I Just hardwired my Valentine 1 yesterday, you just need to pull out the panel, i used a small screwdriver between the panel and the headliner, but be careful not to damage either. there are 3 wires going to the panel, red, yellow, and black. Red is 12V, and black is ground, tap into each of them for power and ground.

Yep, that works fine too.
The only problem there is that it isn't IGN power, so you have to remember to turn it off every time. If you can live with that, you're golden.

Correct, i have my V1 wired the same way in my R32, so i'm used to it, and it's much easier, IMO, and cleaner than going from the fuse box

i did a hard wire in my cobalt with my Bel GX65. mounted on the windshield just under the rearview mirror, the wire goes up into the headliner, following the power cable going into my rearview, over to the passenger side, down the door moldings, under the dash, and directly into a fuse panel that would be by the passengers left foot. got an add a fuse, and voila! took about 20 minutes.

I do electronics installs and can tell you the following
The most popular mount for the escort and other detectors is above the rear view mirror in the dot matrix section of the windshield, simply remove the sunction cups and use super sticky 3M doublesided tape. this spot keeps the unit very discreet
I like the slick custom mount but I don't think it will work on an Evo due to the square post on the mirror
As for the hardwire it is all personal preference. Do you want it to turn on w/ the key or not? Do you want to do a 5 minute or 15 minute install?
the escort mute button/smart cord works great in many cars but... reaching to the detector is probably easier than reaching out to the mute button on the smart cord, think about it remove right hand from wheel and move 6 inches to the detector.
In some Evo's I have installed a few of the smart cords w/ the mute button above the left air vent. Again it is personal preference.

I wanted the remote Mute button closer to my hand so I don't have to awkwardly reach up to the detector. I used the Direct Wire cord with vamp clip, wired it down the A pillar and into the fuse box area. I vamped my (useless) turbo timer, which is hooked into the ignition. Unfortunately, I tapped into a constant-on power cable, so I have to manually shut off the 9500ix or let it turn off automatically in 2 hours. It does work beautifully and the remote button is in a good position for left-hand access.
