Panel Air Filter
Panel Air Filter
This must be stupidest post in this section...I cant for the life of me get the Perrin panel air filter installed correctly, as a matter of fact I cant even put the stock one back in correctly....the stupid clip on the bottom of the box on the left side just would not lock in.
As a result I'm getting a wooosh sound like a blow off valve when I drive(or maybe thats what the perrin is suppose to sound like?). Either way I just cant get the bottom clips to lock in place. Any ideas?

wow! I just installed a K&N panel and had a bit of a time getting it in. Beacause it was at night with no light.
I don't remember there being any clips on the bottom. You just unclip the top one and slide out the old filter and install the new filter and clip the top back up. As far as the sound, you can hear the turbo spool up, and kinda hear the BOV.

if you have issues; there are 2 plastic screw rivets, 1 10mm bolt and 1 philips screw clamp to take off to be able to pop the whole intake box out. It would take less than 5 minutes to get it out and would give you very easy access to the bottom clips

My AFE drop-in will not install/remove without unbolting the box, assembling the box in the air, and then working the whole assembly back in place. This may partially be due to my aftermarket turbo inlet but I think the AFE is simply thicker than the stock filter...
I assume you guys know to avoid oiled filters? Many people have gone through multiple MAF sensors since the oil comes off the filter and ruins it.
As far as the tune goes, nothing needs to be done. The gains are very modest when compared to a conical filter on a stock tune. If you get a custom tune then the drop-ins will flow well enough until you get to very big power levels.

Pull both sides of the airbox out, assemble it with the air filter outside of the car, throw the upper clamps on, and put the whole mess back in as one piece. That's the easiest way. It's one extra 10mm and the two plastic philips head screws that hold the air scoop to the radiator cowl and the whole front of the box comes out.
