Tapping into cigar lighter?

Hey Guys,

Brand new to forum, looking cool though!!
New 2009 Evo X SST arrives wednesday happy days!

Ive been having a look round trying to find a "how to" on
removing the cigar lighter but so far have only found one that requires removing the whole center console

I want to tap into the 12+ volts at the lighter and was wondering if theres an easier way to gain access, If not could anyone point me to an idiots guide to removing the required pieces on a SST model with pictures if possible?

Thanks!

remove the cupholders. they just pull out. then theres some screws in the plastic piece around the shifter. remove that piece and the shift knob and then you can see screws that hold in the cubby hole under the ac control knobs. i think you also have to remove the big trim piece that covers the 4way flashers button and goes over the glove box. its pretty straight forward. i didnt have to remove the whole center console, just a few parts. thats my 08, i duno about your 09 with the different console.

Hey, jmorris1027

Thanks...Sounds easy, I thought the 08 and 09 dash/interior were the same?
Sounds even better actually because i really wanted the cubby storage piece
out as well so that would be a bonus.

Just got to wait another WEEK now as deliveries been put back

Any other thoughts appreciated guys, Specially if the 09 dash/center console is different.

Thanks.

you'll like how most of the interior is all modular, you can pick apart almost everything with ease.

downside is that they'll rattle

Refer to this if you want to remove your center console.

Is there any difference in the 09 X? As far as I'm aware were not getting any of the 09's in the U.S. I figured they would be the same interior.

When I installed my Sirius radio I tapped into power behind my head unit. Bought a cig lighter extension cord and cut off the end. I was talking to the guys from crutchfield to figure out which one was positive and negative but it works great. Sirius unit cuts off when the car does and I don't have a cable hanging down from the window.
