To the OP: was it a matter of choice to remove the entire transmission or was it required since you were only working with jack-stands and not a lift?

Great write up!
Just a note on disconnecting batteries. Never disconnect the positive terminal of the battery first. If you need to disconnect the battery, always disconnect the negative first. If you don't disconnect the negative terminal first and you touch anything metal in the car with the wrench when you are disconnecting the positive terminal, you will short the battery to ground and your wrench will become a welding rod.
If you need to disconnect power just disconnect the negative terminal. This breaks the circuit so you don't need to remove the positive terminal.
