removing trunk?
Bump, anyone actually done this? I am planning on doing this but want to know the easiest way to remove the harness. I imagine that it has lots of connections, (tailights, trunk release, etc).
Thanks!
Thanks!
its not hard to do. I did this a few months ago on my X. I bought a wingless trunk lid and I wanted to swap out my tall spoiler trunklid. It is definitely easier if you have a friend to help you keep the trunk lid aligned as you remove it and put on the new one.
The wiring harness is attached with plastic clips that snap in to the holes in the trunk lid.
Apart from a socket wrench you will need a tool to remove the plastic push pins that hold the trunk liner in. It looks like a two prong fork.
After that the tail lights just unbolt easily and you line up the new lid and bolt it all back together. Then re snake the harness back in and connect it all.
The way the harness is, you want to route it all the way through the trunk lid so that its stretched out all the way then you can work your way back and connect all the clips. This will help keep you from connecting a clip in the wrong place. PLus if you did it wrong it will not reach the right tail light assembly as you wont have enough slack

can the entire spoiler assembly be unbolted from the trunk lid? (leaving a few holes in the trunk lid, I assume)
... or are the posts for the wing an integral part of the trunk sheet metal?
