prosport boost gauge install
prosport boost gauge install
hey guys, im not new to forums at all and im pretty good with working on my own car, minus electrical stuff lol. ive searched all over and found many threads on installing the gauges but im confused on the wiring part. i plan on just sticking it on the steering column, but the the wire that you use to splice into the constant power and such dpesnt seem to be long enough to go anywhere or am i supposed to go through where the back of the stereo is? any help would be much appreciated guys, thanks alot.
I extended them too. I called prosport and asked why the sensor wire was so damn short. He replied that the pressure transducer is supposed to be mounted in the cabin, it's not designed for underhood duty. Then why the hell have an electronic boost gauge??!?!?! I ended up just extending mine into the cabin. Home depot has 4 conductor wire that will work fine for this. I mounted the pressure transducer on the firewall behind the manifold. There is probably 4 inches of vacuum line running to it. It's been working fine for since March of this year.
Yeah just be careful where you mount the sending unit, I had mine mounted inside the fender well (way protected from water) and it didn't last 2 weeks. Fortunately prosport is fantastic with customers and I just drove up there and they gave me a whole new unit, AND a free boost gauge air freshener!
thanks for the responses guys, im still a little confused tho, so what exactly do i need and need to do to extend the wires exactly, and should i mount the sender inside or out? also, what about the wires that i need to power the actualy gauge

read all the threats about the prosport gauges installations, I did one my self a year ago or so, you need to take your time, start sketching on paper, plan your installation, there is a bunch of ways to do it.
I have my electronic sender unit under my hood, near my intake, it works perfect, just BE SURE to install the electric plug facing down and the boost hose facing up, so if it rains, the water won't go inside the unit, I blow my first unit because I installed upside down, there was a tropical storm and Kabum! I Had to stop in the middle of the rain to disconnect everything. lol
If you don't have any idea about electricity, stay away buddy.
Please, disconnect the battery before anything.

I'd recommend just running a vacuum line through the grommet behind the passenger strut tower (it comes out behind the glove box). That's what I did--that way the sender is safely in the passenger compartment.

For extending the wiring I used some intercom cable from Home Depot and soldered it.
