You're right -- I'm not sure. I open that access panel, see it's spot on full and ignore it and the dang manual.

I'd not mess with it personally since I don't have a scan tool, so my bad.

SORRY!

The MT (manual transmission) gear oil is specifically designed for gears and synchro's. LSD is limited slip differential fluid. The Evo's have particular tastes in this. Buy Diaqueen for about $40-50/gal depending on source. It has the particular percentage added of anti-chatter lube stuff (I hear whale sperm isn't used any more, bummer).

Beware of certain "MTL" oils that are not suitable because they have some chemicals that are harse on the brass parts and pieces in the manual GSR gear box. Me, I'm running Redline MT90. Feel free to get any 75W-80, or even a little thicker, GL-3 for your manual transmission gearbox, but avoid GL-5 at all costs; it's bad for your synchros.

There's plenty of sticky's about the fluid specs, but it seems that the preponderance of LSD choices by users are Mitsubishi's diaqueen LSD.

EDIT: I read a post that someone paid Mitsubishi $1000 for their 30k service to do four fluid changes. WOW! Seems pricey to me for grunt work. The people who do that at the dealers are probably the newest least skilled people in the shop, its that easy.

Well it looks like ill be picking up some DiaQueen then.

Need to switch out my trans fluid too, it seems that the mobile 1 isnt a good choice. Hope my synchros arnt messed up too bad. Ive been running it for a little over 6 months.

Edit: Well went and picked up a jug of Diaqueen for $43 from jscspeed. Also grabbed 3 qts of MT90. These are going in tomorrow. Im hoping my shifting smooths out a bit.

Thanks for all the input everyone

CAN SOME ONE ACTUALLY CLARIFY THE FOLLOWING:

I want to replace all the fluids. i'm not at 30k yet but i want to get it out of the way before winter.

Transmission - i already picked up amsoil
Transfer case - DiaQueen LSD gear oil (Diaqueen LSD SAE 90)

Rear axle (Torque transfer) - Diamond ATF SPIII
Rear axle (Differential) - DiaQueen LSD gear oil (Diaqueen LSD SAE 90)

am i forgetting anything? what needs to be bled? i've read so many threads and it does nothing but confuse me. and all the abbreviations also make things a bit more difficult when you are trying to learn all this. someone please help, i'd appreciate it!

Going from sales stats 65% of this forum runs AMSOIL in the tyranny, rear diff, transfer case, and sp 111 in the acd and ayc units

The two fluids in the front you can fill from above, long clean funnel, with a hose on the end to make a sharp bend.

The two fluids in the back, get a pump and get ready to pump and pump til they leak out. Doing the front stuff from above (remove the air cleaner box) helps make it faster. Just a cheap tip.

thanks for the tip. i already have the pump, can't i just use that for the front too?

really i'm concerned with the bleeding. it's in the service manual, i think. those 4 main things i mentioned, transmission, transfer, differential and torque transfer. drain and fill? bleeding?

what about gaskets? the dealer said i'm supose to use a liquid gasket which cost $67!

also, do i need to do anything with the ACD and or AYC?

If you are only changing the fluid and not taking apart the transmission, you don't have to bleed anything.

There are no liquid gaskets. There are washers that are supposed to be replaced (but I don't think you necessarily have to). I replaced my washers (I think it's a total of 4).

It's also a total of 4 main fluid changes (transmission and transfer case up front, then the two parts of the rear differential in the back).

^THANK YOU!!!

that's what i was looking for all this time. i figured thats all i had to do but the more i read through the forums the more i got confused.

do you know what sizes i would need for the washers? i don't see why i wouldn't replace those since they're so cheap. i couldn't believe the dealership suggested to use that liquid gasket, $67, what a rip!!!

Sorry, I don't have the sizes, but they are unique mitsubishi part numbers. They vary in thickness and size, and were a few dollars a piece. Search for posts by RussellM from mitsubishiparts.net. I believe he posted all the EVO X washer sizes a while back.

Sure. I didn't change mine, no problems whatsoever. I've changed my oil at least 15 times now, still on the same crush washer. No drips from all the other drivetrain fluids at all. Rock on.

I changed all my fluids today. It seemed like the t-case and rear diff didn't want to take too much fluid. I filled until fluid ran out the fill, but even at that it just seems like they'd hold more. Barely over a 1/2 quart for the rear diff and less than a quart in the t-case.. Changed the SPIII for the ACD/AYC too, but it didn't hold nearly the amount of fluid found at this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...fications.html .. Oh well, at least it's done.
