Question Front Tie Rod Removal?

Anyone know why the Evo Service Manual calls for the use of a special tool (MB991897) to remove the locking nut on the front tie rods?

Im prepping for a Whiteline RCK install and just wanted to make sure I did everything right.

Can't I just unbolt that top nut? Also should I replaced the locking nut with a new one? If so what part number? Although watching videos of people using a pickle fork, I'm guessing it's to pry the toe arm out of the knuckle once the bolt is removed?

If I can figure this out I'll have to put together an RCK how to, since there's doesn't seem to be one for the X (although I imagine the one for the 8-9 is close enough.)

Thanks!

you don't need that tool at all just remove the nut give the area next to the shaft that it held in place a few whacks with a hammer.

The special tool is not to "remove the locking nut on the front tie rods" it's to remove the tire rod from the steering knuckle.

Excellent thanks! That's what it sounded like after reading up on how to remove tie rods on other vehicles.
