Great write up!
I'm going to try to use this gauge to log AFR with Evoscan, I hear it's a pain. I have a question about the white wire. Once connected to the green (2014), does the failsafe bypass the rear O2 and log the wideband instead? Or is the failsafe reading the rear O2?
Basically, what happens when you wire the white to the green? Thanks

RPM wire on Evo X
To wire the gauge to receive RPM signal
You will need to tap into the ECU harness
Pin 4 is Ignition coil #1, tap the AEM RPM wire into Pin 4 wire
i have attached the Pinout table to this post
you can google Evo X ECU wires for colours but they may change between year models.

I used to have an EVC 6 wired in here for controlling boost via rpm
I now use a GS 3Port boost controller

open the AEM software to calibrate the RPM
this is done by changing the Pulses per Revolution
change setting while engine is running to match rpm displayed in software
on the Evo X 0.5 is correct.
above is only necessary if implementing the failsafe functions
im not sure how to implement boost cut via 3 port
attached a copy of the EVO X ECU pin out diagram
AEM Update (although it appeared to work i will be disconnecting the coil signal)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING USING THE RPM INPUT FOR THE WIDEBAND FAILSAFE GAUGE
The AEM Wideband Failsafe Gauge’s (WBFS) engine speed (RPM) input requires a clean square wave tachometer-type signal in order to log engine speed properly.
The voltage of this signal must NOT exceed 16V or go below vehicle ground (zero volts.)
Here are examples of signals that WILL NOT work and could cause damage to the gauge:
If a signal’s waveform is unknown and cannot be verified with an oscilloscope, it’s safest to assume that the signal won’t work and could possibly damage the gauge. In these cases, it is suggested that the MSD GMR Pickup be utilized to pick up off of an ignition coil.

I think a good idea is to run wires from the engine bay via an existing hole to the cabin.
If you look in the absolute right hand corner of the engine bay near the abs hard lines you will see a Gromit that secures black plastic containing wires.
Slide the Gromit forwards from off the car to get more room to pass wires through.
It's hard to move the Gromit but well worth it.
In the cabin it comes out at the top of the back of the glove box
Try using a hard plastic strip like electricians use to feed / route cables
i used a plastic coat hanger broken into pieces then taped black plastice tube i ran wires and boost line in through the grommet.
Recommend to remove strut bar for access
May be opposite side for Left hand drive vehicles
I am logging AFR to a Cobb AP
It won't matter if you use Cobb or open source, it's still data from AEM white wire to the ECU via O2
I confirm this data logging works to the cobb AP
I also earthed brown and black wires together, used cabin fuse box mount bolts
used 5 AMP fuse in the Add-a-fuse
tested power / earth using multimeter - all good

- Ignition coil primary (positive or negative terminal)
- Injector signals

- OEM tachometer signal (0-12V square wave—verification with an oscilloscope recommended)

can someone confirm I understand properly?
You send analog 0-5V output from AEM wideband into rear O2 signal pin? (of course rear O2 sensor is not plugged in anymore)
ecm will properly see that 0-5V input?

That is correct, I have done it successfully on an AUDM car.
only difference is the 02 wires are different colours
i only disconnect the signal wire to connect to AEM white wire
i left the other wires in place.
you will get a code either way, something about high voltage unless you disable rear 02 in tuning software.
I log the WB data to a Cobb access port.
note that AEM brown wire earth location is important.
it needs to piggyback one of the Evo X’s factory ground points
i tried other options but none are as good
not even splicing with black wire
only difference is the 02 wires are different colours

and does anyone knows if I can do the same with a few other input? do original ecm have free input? (I can add terminal if necessary)
might be looking to add a boost input, or a fuel pressure input. mostly only for logging purpose... but would be great to have it straight into ecm.
