I was reading the forums and found out that the MR SSS package comes with a sunroof. I was wondering if it would be possible to put the sunroof on a GSR model. I had no idea if it would work but it sounds like it might. thought id just ask u guys because i really want a sunroof with and OEM fit. And seeing that i have no clue how sunroofs are installed i figured id just ask. Thnks

 

Are you sure about that? The MR doesn't have an SSS package. The HIDs are included in the base model, as is the spoiler. The Rockford stereo is part of a Technology package that includes the navigation system.

I don't recall seeing anything about a sunroof option in the Mitsu press release.

 

The option for the sunroof replaces the aluminum roof for steel. They have to beef it up, just like they have to do with convertibles, that is that much more weight in the last place you want it, on top.

 

thats true about the weight. Well what process do u have to go thru to get an aftermarket sunroof installed? and is it clean and worth it?

You'd be cutting into an aluminum roof on a car whose chassis stiffness is critical to its handling characteristics. Of almost any car, this is certainly one I wouldn't be playing around with hacking up the roof.

 

There's a specific warning in the technical manual for the Evo X saying that by no means should you install an aftermarket sunroof. I'd avoid doing that at all costs.

if the MR has an option of coming with a sunroof dont you think it cant be THAT bad? do you think if it affected performance or handling a noticeable amount that they wouldnt put it in there? or maybe they are just trying to make everyone happy since a lot of people like sunroofs

They add steel to do that, a lot of the car gets reinforced. It would take inside knowledge of the car to know how to convert one of the aluminum roofs safely to add a sunroof, and you'd have to add a lot of weight, and then there is the possibility of it being wrong, and if thats the case then you chance "popping" the sunroof under torque, possibly even twisting the roof. I don't think its worth it.
