I want to cry when talking about this. China is a totally uncivilized place, esp on car mods. Basically all car mods are illegal and supposed not allowable to put on road. There are inspections every two years and obviously you need some very special ways to pass them. You need to also find ways to update your car permit (with photo) so that you can be released everytime when you are caught up by any police on the road. For sensitive hours and sensitive places you could easily be stopped for couple of times for such inspections a night.

This month it is even more crazy. In Hangzhou (one of the scenic rich 2nd-tier cities here) a EVO9 was involved in an accident that killed a young guy. This originally seemed to be a typical car accident only. But since the driver is a very young son of a rich man the police here seemed to be acting quite unfair at first, then being chased after by the media and have no more way to cover their corruptive behaviours then they started to divert everyone's attention by saying that EVO9 is out of control because of car mods. Fxxk them based on the pictures and their reports that EVO9 only got upgraded the wheels and tires to 18" and very minor upgrades like blow-off, tower bars, etc. Then all the sudden the whole city including surrounding ones like Shanghai started to slamp modded cars without any reasons. They sent out thousands of polices on the road to stop all modded cars (even minor one with wheels' upgrades only), put them into custody and ask them to return to stock before they can be released. The police also check major car parks and officially reward anyone who can report modded cars found anywhere. For me, although I am current out of the country but I got a warning phone call from my tuner saying that the police in-charge of the district where I live would try to visit my car parks to locate my EVO. Luckily I got such inside story so that my tuner can help to put my car in another safe place waiting for this crazy massacre to go over (normally need 2 months time based on past experience).

So you know how much I love about car modding now: we pay more than double to get and mod the beauties here and we need to also bear all these fxxking environment to enjoy our EVO in China......

Yeah.. I heard the victim was a college student and that was why the media was all over it. Usually when a dead farmer or person from less fortunate family got killed, they were offered with money compensation; so the case was settled. Rich men get all kinds of priviledges in china.. it's not a joke.

these are the pictures of the evo 9 owner and the victim.. it was very sad.

and apparently somebody got access to see his driving record...this kid had a ticket of driving 210 km/h which is about 130mph. According to the witness, the kid was clearly over 100km/h, about 60mph. After the investigation, the cops said he was going only 70km/h and "plus". well.. I don't know how this kid is getting away from trouble, in china the higher speed you kill a victim the more servere crime it is. 70km/h is only a slight speeding.

The triggering point was that this evo 9 owner is a young kid of a rich family in Hangzhou and also with some political background. Soon after the accident a bunch of kids driving Ferrari and other sport cars arrived the spot to back up the evo 9 owner and their behaviour **** the people off. "70km/h" was also viewed as highly discounted by the police due to political pressure and given the impact that pump off the victim by > 20m. So the media makes it a big case against the political shelter and the police then try to divert attention and pick "modded cars" as an excuse and kick start a massacre to catch modded cars to somehow release the tension. So poor all the modded cars in Hangzhou these 2 weeks would just like hell to them. Shanghai also got hit as well since a modded BMW 3 series hurted a lady in downtown a week after the Hangzhou accident and again a young driver with bad attitude was involved.

In China people just hate rich people since they get too much privileges politically and this is just part of the boost of this time bomb. Today the family of evo 9 driver agreed a compensation of RMB1.3m (around USD200K) with the victim, which is considered real high in China standards. Then the media started to make a case again by suggesting that this may impact the final judgement of this case unfairly......

I saw a C6 cruising slowly sometimes close to my office area and honestly I don't think the driver enjoyed that.
Driving in sux apparently from what you describe.

I was about to suggest you take out the wing,.......well, its your call.

I was in China recently (business trip) to Kuanshan via Shanghai Putong Airport. Its pretty crazy the traffic there.

Bikes are banned as the authorities said they cause pollution, & there are part of the city where cars not registered at the regain are not allow to enter.

I told myself if I ever gonna live in China, I will just get a beat up car to save the headache since alot of people didn't give a damn to traffic rules. It seem getting into accident is something you have to live with on regular basis. It seriously required much higher alertness when driving there.

Your comment is understandable. When Shanghai host the 1st F1 race back 7years ago, the 1st champion, Ferrari's Barricerro, when asked about his impression about Shanghai, his first comment was the road traffic was just too crazy and it was the only place in the world that he has doubt to dare to drive......

For me, I moved from more civilized Hong Kong to Shanghai 12 years ago. Even though I love driving and have full confidence on myself I still took 3-4 years to accustom the road condition here before I bought my 1st car here in China. Honestly you can get used to it, though not enjoyable at all. Luckily although I am fast but I have not involved into any serious accidents for all these years, except for one small scartch by a motor-bike and another small bump by a Ford Focus from the back. Yes, for you to get hold of the traffic condition here you need to keep 200% alertness in all directions and at every junctions facing all types of crazy road users esp those with two wheels or just a pair of legs......
