HIDs - Repair, Paint, Install!

Well, I finally finished. It was a bunch of repair work, even more than I had originally anticipated, but I got them working and installed!

An Evo owner who had been in a collision had been kind enough to send his HID housings to me, all the way up in Canada. As many of you know, Canadian GSRs do not have the SSS option, and therefore no HIDs. I wanted HIDs, so I was on the lookout for ways to do it without paying the dealer-quoted $1100 EACH. I also have a problem with just sticking HIDs in the reflector housing.

I won't get into details on the repair work, but suffice it to say that I spent the better part of the weekend playing Dr. Frankenstein, transplanting working sections of my intact reflector housing into the smashed up projector housings. Fortunately, there are very few differences between the housings, other than the light components themselves.

My second post will contain a bit of a how to on the baking/painting/etc process, along with some general comments on various obstacles I came to encounter. I'll make note of the similarities and differences between the housings, in case anyone wants to follow my lead.

On to pictures! They are chronological'ish, but I will add comments later. Not enough time right now. (I need to aim the lights and get a Headlight Level Switch, then figure something out for DRLs.)

I love them. HUGE thanks to inhocaviles for the advice on painting the shrouds, and to blckchns for helping me out with finally finding HID housings (even if they were broken).

What do you mean?

Is there something wrong with the projector? It seems more than sufficient. I mean, I know people tend to retrofit with specific ones, such as TSX's, but would it really make that much of a difference?

Not to mention that you would lose the high-beam "blinder" that retracts when you turn highbeams on.

Its all personal taste, thats why I retrofitted mine with s2k's
overall output is way better than OEM projectors

I suppose that's true.

I was going for OEM though, as I was able to scrape together all the pieces to make it work as if it had come from the factory.
