OEM aerokit tape supposed to show?

Sorry if this has come up before, but I searched and googled and came up with nothing.

All around the bottom of my aerokit, a grey strip seperates the kit piece from the body. I saw the front lip installation instructions in another thread here, and the strip corresponds to the placement of what the instructions call "masking tape".

I've seen a couple other pictures that had just the right angle and closeups to see that some others with aerokits also have the same strip showing.

Is it supposed to show? I can't imagine having a RR or PB Evo with an aerokit with a stupid grey strip running all around the bottom of the car. I didnt notice it until a few days ago, since it sort of blends with the AS.

Any negatives to removing it? It just looks like garbage. Do the aftermarket carbon fiber kits require something similar?

-- Perfect example -- Check hameedosh's thread about his DAMD Spoiler parts in this subforum. 6th picture down, passenger side front airdam -- Grey strip seperating body from kit piece.

I think it's normal. It would be nice to have it color coded to match the car but it doesnt really bother me that much.

it's there so there is no gap between the body and the aerokit, kinda acts like a seal

It also protects the bumper and body from the aero kit scratching the paint.
