cloudy clearcoat after 3 weeks?
i'm getting these tiny cloudy spots along the top of my doors and down the black trim on the b pillars. it's really strange...i'm pretty sure they're not hard water spots. is it the clearcoat? if it is, why would it show up on the black trim? car's 3 weeks old. noticed it today after i washed my car. goo-gone does nothing.
it's really bad on the right side (passenger side) although i do see a little in the same spot on my drivers side.
i will have pics tomorrow. is this a defect anyone else is experiencing? you think the dealer will fix it under warranty?

hard to see in picture...it's too bright outside, and a really bad layer of dust collected surprisingly mostly in the affected area. is it a wax issue? all those specks are fine grain dust. alot of construction around where i am right now.

It's obviously not a paint issue if the trim is also discolored. Some sort of chemical may have come in contact with your car. Need to see pics to conclude further but you may want to swing by your local autobody shop to get their opinion.
When I first bought my car, I had rail dust really bad. The dealer had to send it to a body shop to have it wet sanded. The spots in my car kinda looked like that but, I would have a spec of rust in the middle of each spot. When I tried using a clay bar on it, I picked up a bunch of rust. Try clay barring and see if you get any rust coming off the car.

It happens during shipping of the cars. Both by transport and train. It has something to do with the cars developing a charge and attracting iron dust particles. It embeds in the paint. Moisture and oxygen cause it to corrode and discolor your paint. It happens quite a bit. The more I look at the pictures, the more I think it's rail dust.
I thought my car was ruined. I didn't even notice it when I bought it (my car is PB and it was raining a bit so it was hard to see). Once I brought it home and started detailing it, I noticed it. The paint wasn't smooth when I was washing it and the clay bar was pulling up rust. I'm betting that is your problem. Chances are your dealer will be familiar with this issue. You're probably not the first car your dealer has seen with this problem (like I said, it happens quite a bit with all car manufacturers ). My dealer was really good in taking care of it.

Try the clay bar if that doesn't work give the dealer a call and see if they are willing to work with you. Like everyone said it looks like rail dust and most dealerships are willing to have the cars wet sanded for you especially if they have their own collision center.
The red pic looks like there are raised bumps all over the paint. I had small raised bumps all over the car and some of the spots started to get cloudy just like in the pics. If the paint doesn't feel smooth when you are washing or clay barring, then it's rail dust. I actually brought pieces of my clay bar to show the dealer all the rust that was coming out of the paint. They sent the car off to be wet sanded and it was as good as new.
ok, so i complained about the rough paint to my dealer. they tried to wash it off and then used a paint sealant. when i asked the detailer why he didn't wax it first, he told me the service manager told him to use the paint sealer only. i'm no expert detailer, but it seems like he's not either. 20-21y.o kid max. but he was a really cool dude.
their detailing bay is pretty bare. he was actually complaining to me about him lacking materials. and the lighting in there is crap. in fact, i don't think they have ANY lighting besides the sun coming in.
so when he couldn't get the spots off, i mentioned clay barring it. he said they didn't have one in stock. i talked to the manager and he said he'll order one. they called me and told me they just got it in and i scheduled for 8am tomorrow.
i'm a bit nervous. as i said, i'm no expert but from what i've read, claying the car can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
