Evo X vs GT-R
lol

don't get me wrong, the GTR has all the gismos and performance you could ever want, but it just did not inspire me when driving it, I felt a bit dittached from the car as if it was doing it all for me and the fact I am an average driver (limited track experience) did not really count for much....the best way I could describe it was just point & go, which may sound great but in reality (my opinion) it was just a bit boring in the end.
the other thing that really annoyed me was the gearbox, it was too in decisive when just cruising around town, and if you planted your foot you could almost hear it trying to figure out what to do....say going from 5th to 2nd.....and the clonking noise it makes....jeeeezzzzzzzzz!!!
I bought my girlfriend a porsche cayman in 2009 (christmas) and i prefer driving this car 10 fold, it may not be as quick but it actually feels like a sports car, driving position everything is better.
anyway sure that will upset some people, but remmeber this is just my opinion, and before you all start, I have actually owned and driven both.
I pick up my new EVO X SST (or MR as you guys call it) on saturday and having test driven several, I know its a better car than the GTR, or certainly is for me.
joe.
"as we call it" uhhhh...you mean we as in Mitsubishi. It's an Evo MR dude not Evo SST, no such model exist.
EDITED: just noticed you're in the UK, which is funny because everything you said about the gtr is exactly almost word for word what Top Gear says about the Evo when talking about it's electronics.
Also taking into account that everything you said(granted it is your opinion) is contrary to any other professional judging the gtr has received, particularly as it relates to the Evo which about 85%(safe to say) of the time is compared "to" the gtr's engineering.
Please elaborate on your driving issues with the gtr's gear box, which can be almost considered the Evo's distant more experienced cousin. You said pretty much nothing except mongo thinks it sucks. Your statement sounds just like what every major media source said of the X's tranny in late 2008. In fact the MR's release was delayed due to tranny tuning.
So if you please would elaborate on how it sucked, ie: type of roads, traffic patterns, cars settings(which make a huge difference). Lastly, I'm really sorry to be such an ***, but if you can afford gtrs and porches like happy meals, I find it a little strange you'd end up in an Evo instead of something like a Z06 or GT2, etc, etc. Lots of cars I'd cross shop in that price range before an Evo. Hell, the Evo would be my beater dd, unless this is your point in which case the Evo is an awesome beater for the affluent enthusiast.

In the rest of the world the car is called the EVO GSR SST. It's only in North America that it's called the EVO MR because they can charge more money for it...
Did you miss the part where I wrote "edited: I see you're from the UK".

In response to Jonjo....
I do agree that the GT-R's transmission is a bit lame when just chugging around town, especially in Auto mode. However, I NEVER drive in Auto. EVER. It just wants to go to 6th gear instantly. I actually prefer the Evo's SST for daily driving than the GT-R since it is slightly harsher and more clunky, though I do have the tranny tcu tuned so that the clutch capacity is increased so it's a bit firmer by my doings. For high performance driving though, I think the GT-R's downshifts and response is a bit better than the Evo. Also, realize that the GT-R's tranny can handle 700+hp stock so obviously it will be a bit more hardcore than the SST which almost feels like an automatic.
About numbness...I totally agree that the GT-R is no wild animal...but once you mod the car and raise the boost, it is totally different. With VDC off, if you are running say 550whp, the tail is gonna kick out. It's still relatively easy to control but it's a lot of fun and it's great knowing you can drive like a lunatic and get away with it whereas if you had a Viper and powershifted on the 1-2 around a bend you may find yourself wrapped around a tree.
I love the Evo and it's the best bang for your buck possible. To me, the Evo is half the price of cars like the RS4 and M3 and IMO it is "better" than them (I like the lighter weight and the tunability of the turbo, sorry lol).
The GT-R is half the price of the 997 Turbo and IMO it is also "better" than that.
The Evo and the GT-R are the japanese alternatives to the high priced Euro performance cars...and not only are they half the price, but oftentimes they kick their asses too.
Jonjo, I suggest you get an exhaust and tune on the GT-R. Drive with VDC off. Perhaps you will fall in love with it? If it's not for you, then go for a Viper or Z06. I had a Z06 and when modded, those things are true animals!

I don't think you are sorry to be such an ***, judging by the way you started off your post pre editing it
)as for traffic and road conditions, just generally pulling upto a roundabout and thinking right foot down theres a gap to pull out into it hesitates before selecting a gear and then drops it to first and off you go when really you needed second and it would have been a better pull away.....there are other instances but its not necessary to point them all out.
the GTR was supposed to be the DD supercar......well its not, this probaly added to my overall dissappointment of not feeling comfortable with it day to day.

will you give your face a rest sunshine, REAL poor people can't afford either so whats your point.....the difference between evo and gtr is probaly a kid or two and what outgoings the finance company want to know you have before they accept you
I have only driven a GT-R in mostly auto mode in traffic and on highways. I am absolutely enamored with the car and I will own one someday - however I was quite surprised at how rough, loud and clunky it was even with the suspension settings on soft. I can see how someone could not tolerate it as a DD. I wish I could have jumped into a MR right behind it for back to back testing.
I guess people in the UK have the luxury on not being so hung up on brand whoriness as some Americans do.
