Yet Another First Mod Thread.. *Not 56k friendly*

I need your opinions, Im so torn. I just purchased my X on saturday and I already have the mod crack addiction. The front lip is slightly chipped and scratched on the lower edge of it from the previous owner. There are also rock chips and knicks on the SSS wing. So Im so torn right now its rediculous. Either ordering this tomorrow:
My car:

All of this from Derek @ Rexpeed:
The Top Gurney piece, not the vinyl stickers on the side.

Plus++
AMS Intake - Black + Bung to keep it as close to stock as possible.

OR

AMS Stage 2 Upgrade Kit.

The only problem I have with it is the ecu flash, my X is my DD, I have no other way to get to work, my girl works on the complete opposite side of town so not an option. I am interested in getting the car to breath better, as I have already started to notice the choke-up at the top end, between 5500-7000. There are no tuners or even an awd dyno that I know of around me within atleast 200 miles. Kind of offputting when it comes to buying performance mods if I cant get it tuned.

I NEED YOUR OPINIONS.

There are a few places that do E-tunes. I know Jestr is one. AMS just started doing them. You basically buy the tune online and include your mods by type and brand. they also want to know how you plan to re flash the ecu. I know Jestr from their website is only Tactrix cable and Open Ecu. Ams uses Cobb AP or ECU Flash. Then they make a specific tune for your car based on all the mods you have from maps they have in their data base. Or find someone in your area that is an EVO owner that knows HOW to tune with Open Ecu and help you. Good luck and enjoy the "bug". With AMS if you dont have a Cobb AP you can buy it from them and the etune is basically free from what i seen on website. If you already own the Ap the cost is like $300 ish bucks.

Nice options! I'm thinking of going the following route with mine:

1) AMS polished intake
2) AMS racing series exhaust
3) AMS UICP
4) Tune - still trying to find a place/pricing for this

thanks for explaining this dude. I've been seeing it on websites as I browse through them, this e-tune stuff. So basically they send you a tune that comes in some kind of proprietary file format, and you use some type of cable to read the current one, and write the new file to the ecu. (i work in IT, im a geek, i know it). Hrmm, time to research this option, because this would mean ZERO downtime. Of course I need a boost gauge/AFR gauge first before I would just throw a generic tune and dog the **** out of the car.

Holy santa claus ****: http://www.accessecu.com/accessport/.../EVOXMaps.html

I see how this works, COBB AP may have just been added to the list.

Nice choices also my friend. God its so tough to decide, show or go first. My gf tried to make the point that Im sitting in traffic 65% of the time driving to and from work, so why make it faster then it already is. I guess she cant appreciate the other 35% like I can, considering she's already afraid of the car the way it is. Do you know how hard it is to hit minimal boost on a 2 hour road trip home from buying an Evo? lol its hard.

But then again, she doesnt like the way the car looks either so . Lose - lose for me.

I feel your pain, bro! I took my wife out with me to buy my Evo and the sales guy and I were talking about all the finer details of the car. My wife looked completely glazed over and the sales guy turned to me and said, "She just doesn't get it, does she?" to which I responded, "Bringing her here is like taking a blind kid to an art gallery."

When we got home my wife told me that she didn't notice any difference between the Evo and the Mustang I traded in for it. I about fell out of my chair LMAO!!!

My gf and I live above this ***** who constantly complains about us walking around our apartment, rediculous. I tried to tell her she lives in an apartment but she just doesnt understand. The ***** drives a mazda 3. My gf said that my X reminded her of the ****ing mazda 3.

I almost **** myself, and wished I had ludacris hook me up with one of these:

What is the word on the Injen CAI + UICP? I found an amazing deal on it here in the vendor classifieds, but if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

Anybody running this setup? I recognize the Injen name from my old honda days and they were pretty reputable, but honda riceboys like everything.

I have the injen set up with CAI (really an SRI with heatshield) and UICP. I like it a lot! Was a great upgrade and easy to install. However, the tube where the MAF sits is the same size as stock. It works well on stock turbo but depending on the turbo you want to upgrade to (if you are even going to) you might have to get a bigger diameter MAF housing intake. Someone else might know the HP range you would need to reach before upgrading as I do not. I believe its well into the 400's though. Hope that helped you.

The Cobb Ap would probably be best for the route your looking now. The Open Ecu is overwhelming if your unsure of what your doing. The AP, you up load the map to the device plug device into car and select the program you want then voila. I use this method. especially comes in handy when traveling and use it to switch maps for different fuel octanes. The Cobb AP is so easy...... well you know the rest.

I was also looking at this as a possible upgrade option, but the more I look around the ETS CAI + UICP/LICP kit looks better and better to me. Keep in mind I'm looking at things from a budget vs. performance perspective lol! From what I've heard and read ETS makes quality stuff that you can trust.

If you guys are looking for stuff, call these guys. Adam @ MAP performance, Micheal @ETS. they are great guys and probably get you the best deals. Just cause it not on their web site dont mean they dont already have it or they cant get it.

Thats perfect, I dont plan on going that high anytime soon, so sounds like the injen might be a good buy since it comes with the UICP for around the same price as others intakes.

Is there anything wrong with this?

ETS CAI:

I guess i just dont understand why I've seen ETS intakes upwards of $500, and this one is roughly half of that?

Would it be better to go with that one or the Injen + UICP deal I saw?
