I know that when buying a Yakima rack you need the q102 and q83 clips, butim not sure what clips go where. Do you use the q102 in the front or in the back? and vice versa with the q83s? thank you in advance for the help!!

i cant believe how many of you run the yakima q towers, setup is so difficult to deal with. i work at rack attack and you gotta go with the thule systems, just way better. i just put on my stock winter wheels and had to put some crossbars on it to give it a different look

btw, q102 is for the front bar and q83 is for the rear on the evo 8 - http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...structions.pdf

im still blown away at the cost of racks. i know how good the quality of the "higher" brands is, Yakima and Thule...i just figure by now they wouldn't still be 300 dollars for cross bars -_-

wait for the annual sale.. and stores like REI have sales too. You might have to buy them piece by piece, but eventually you will have a set. Comes out to be 100-200$ cheaper

Both brands went up significantly for 2014 (as they have done in the past every other year) - we are complaining as sells guys for the brands as it just makes it harder to sell - my work rackattack.com just put out a 15% promo code all over our site.

I have the Inno rack and its a decent base system. But just yesterday I had my Kona XC and Santa Cruz DH on top on the L.I.E. and all of a sudden the rails slid back to the door pillars. Bikes went way off balance and tilted back at 65MPH. Needless to say there are some scratches on the roof by the door, but the clamps held everything well until i could stop and fix the issue. I'm concerned about the weight limit they claim vs what it can actually withstand.
The clamps were relatively tight, and I've done the trip with the bikes on top about 5X now, not sure what caused the whole rack to slide 1ft backwards. For reference the 2 bikes cant weigh more than 75lbs together.

Couple snaps of my rack. I have all Thule, mostly pieced together from Craigslist as I refuse to pay the new prices.
Front fairing, 2 bike gutters and 1 snowboard attachment:
