if you're shooting for high horsepower applications, you'll need the GSR...but otherwise, if you are willing to give up the stick, the SST isn't too bad an option. it certainly is easier to drive, no doubt.

i guess i'm getting old...my left knee is starting to feel weird after long dances with the clutch pedal, which started to make me think i should have purchased the MR. then again, my final goal is shooting for the 600whp range. can't have both unfortunately.

From: Tx,
The good thing right is Jack has a total rebuilt for less. So when my SST went caput I know where to go with confidence.

I couldn't be happier with my 2012 MR Touring. The Getrag transmission shifts so smoothly, is so precise and blinding fast- truly enhances your driving experience. I think the reliability issues are overblown, that said, I certainly don't plan keeping car pass it's 3 year warranty to find out! Hopefully a lighter XI will be out be out by then sporting 400 HP, height-adjustable suspension, 8 speed dual clutch tranny, adjustable Recarro seats, better stereo, bigger Brembos, regenerative breaking, 30 MPG and don't forget the flux capacitor. lol

if it's worth anything...... just had my MR tuned by Cobb SoCal last week... they seriously tweaked the TCU <-> ECU input signals and in "Dnormal" it drives much better now. no wishy-washy long pauses before shifting, or pauses... feels really good. less slippage for sure... it does make the MR a little better/sportier to drive now. so im happy with that....

Man! I need them to work on my car. I still get that hesitation between 2nd and 3rd. Also getting a jolt feeling when the TCU downshifts from 3rd to 2nd on normal. Goes away when I switch to sport... Feels like I got rear ended(no homo). Sucks!

Up here in Canada we have something called a 'handling package' MR suspension plus 2 piece rotors and BBS rims. That's how I got my GSR speced and I love it.

As a MT fan I could not bring myself to buy the SST, almost did too! I sat at home for 2 weeks while all the paper work was getting done (traded in my CBR600RR) and it hit me. I MUST get the manual. So here I am, happy as a mothertrucker.

Thats cool they offer the handling package in CA. Wish they did here as well. I put RPF1s on my GSR, Revalved bilsteins + Swift Spec-R, and just now 2 piece Girodisc rotors. So I basically did the handling package on my GSR. Still wish I had that SST though.

I had a conversation with Noize today. I can heel-toe with the best of the, but I feel like when I'm on the track it's distracting. I'd rather be left foot braking and using paddles than worrying about an extra pedal. It feels primitive to me now after spending 18 months with the MR and 18 months with the GSR. But this is why gives options.

I really don't have any intention to upgrade the turbo. Beyond the bolt-ons the MR had, I really don't see a need to add power at the track. I feel comfortable with about 330-350whp. Anything beyond and I'd be kidding myself about using it all.

Thats good to know about Jack's Transmissions. I have the same mental battles as far as transmissions. I drive my 5 speed Mustang through the week and "play" with my 6 speed Ralliart on weekends. Don't get me wrong the Mustang is a lot more fun to drive in the twisties and feels like a "drivers car" because you have more control of the torque, BUT manuals will be less and less. I think less than 10% of new cars sold now are manuals. There are 2 or 3 complete generations that couldn't drive a stick if their life depended on it. Which will only drive auto makers to offer even less manual trasmisisons. How will a 5 speed or even 6 speed true manual transmission compete with Emssions/MPGs when then there is a mass production 8 or 10 speed SST type transmission?

Disclaimer: I know I just have a Rustang or six, and a Ralliart. I have been laying the groundwork for a 2012 Octane Blue 0r 2013 Cosmic Blue MR, but Obamacare/tax hike sorta took a big chuck out of my check and I'm still adjusting.

The main reason I went with the GSR was simply because of the transmission. I couldn't afford a brand new MR, and I was kind of iffy about buying a used one with the SST. I also said I would NEVER buy another automatic transmission after driving a Lancer w/cvt around for 2 years. But looking back on it now, I can say that could I have afforded it, I would have gone with the MR. Don't get me wrong, I love my 5 speed, but driving in stop and go traffic is a b****.

Must be said that 70% of Europe, Asia and Africa drive MT. It's the 'lazy' north american mentality, I'm not making this stuff up. Have a read.

Why do you think BMW has no plans on dropping the MT or how would you feel if your Mustang was AT? I do agree about the 2-3 generations that can't drive MT, if your parents had a minivan, then how are you going to learn.

In Europe(I'm from Poland originally) families are happy with small hatchbacks and AT is even more as rare as MT is here.

It comes down to gas prices, MT have been more fuel efficient/lighter for ages. When you have to pay twice as much for gas as north americans do while making half as much, trust me you are going to suck it up and be happy with the MT.

On a side note the new vette is a 7spd MT.
