Plastidip vs Powdercoat
Plastidip vs Powdercoat
I am considering either plastidipping or powdercoating the stock EvoX wheels in either bronze or black. For those with experience in either methods, which would you recommend?
I like the durability of powdercoat jobs, but also like the idea of being able to 'peel' off the paint of plastidipped wheels should I ever need to sell the stockers. But how do plastidipped wheels hold up? I'm assuming the first bout of curb rash would really destroy it. What say you?

I have read before though that powdercoating wheels can affect their structural stability because of the exposure to extreme temperatures when the paint is 'baked' on. Is there any truth to that?
Plastidip is cheap, easy, and durable. I had curb rash on my gts rim and they didn't peel or anything. I sold them plasti dipped to a friend who just refinished them, 2 years after the initial dip job I did. I only used 2 cans too, 4 is recommended for wheels. Plus it's removable, you can't beat that haha
Here they are after I first did them in 2011

I had my black wheels plasti-dipped orange for a month or so.
and in that time they held up fantastic.
and then when I wanted them another color. peeled right off.
if you do use plasti dip. make sure you at least use a can per wheel. or else peeling it off will be a bit more difficult.

there is truth to that, and there have been a few people on here that cracked their factory wheels that they had powdercoated, that alone is worth going the plastidip route... and the fact that its much cheaper and easily reversible are another 2 reasons to go plastidip...

My buddy just did a set of Speed3 wheels in my garage...used the dip kit from dipyourcar + one can from Lowes/Home Depot....with about a can left over...so about a can per wheel and 3 cans of clear for the set...turned out well I think... I plan on doing my stockers this summer with gunmetal pearl for winter use
