How Hard Are You On Whoever Tinted Your Windows

So I am curious how much of a dick you are to the guys who tinted your windows. The job I got was pretty nice except for about 3-4 minor spots. The first guy I talked to got an attitude when I pointed them out (I think he was the owner) and then walked over to the car I drove up in (My friends wrx) and tried to pick apart his tint which is 2 years old. All we were saying is that I think 2 micro fibers got under the tint and that there were a couple very small bubbles which they said would go away within a few days. I was going back and forth with the guy to the point that I told him to just take the tint off. Then when I went into my friends car to leave another person came out and started talking to us and was not a dick and actually listened to what we said as well as stating what he thought. In the end he said he would completely redo the one door window and the other parts should go away. I dunno, am I being too much of a dick about window tint or do you guys feel the same way?

Customer is always rt---or business goes away. main flaw I see is you pissed the guy off and then left your car from him to work on... maybe you'll get what you want, maybe not.

Well I wasn't saying anything to **** him off, its just he got very defensive once I pointed out a few spots I was not happy with.

It's all in the art of arguing your point in a non confrontational manner. In any situation... If the work was not to your satisfaction then hold your ground while being mature about it. Last thing you wanna do is back someone into a corner and have them fight their way out...you usually end up losing that battle and walk away more pissed off than if you hadn't.

I had a similar situation regarding a windshield replacement I had done on another vehicle. The replacement windshield was some cheap *** glass that distorted the view near the bottom where it met up with the top of the dash...I'm a short guy at 5'6" and so my line of sight was practically through the distorted part of the replacement glass....after calmly stating my point & my disapproval of the installed product, I finally had to have the window tech guy actually stoop down to my level in the drivers seat to understand my complaint and agree to replace it with another windshield.

I learned that by omitting 'You' and 'Your' and replacing them with 'I' and/or 'Me' during an argument can go a long way...(most of the time, lol)

Ya after I came back for the third time and talked to a few of the guys I actually pulled the owner aside by himself. I told him how I was not trying to come off as some dick head, but also how he should not get so confrontational and defensive when someone points out a flaw that they see. I explained that while I do not do window tint and other related things for a living that I also have some sort of standard that I would want to get as far as quality goes. We talked some more and it turns out he actually races cars and I was explaining about how I may want to put some 3m on the side skirts and quarter panel. He was actually amazed they didn't put any on from factory like they did on some earlier models and how they do on the wrx's. And also how the wrx's get it 10x worse than the evo's as far as chips in those areas. In the end we came to an agreement with everything and he said to bring it back if theres any problems in 7-10 days while it is settling.

My shop redid my tint 4 times (not exaggerating) because it kept having issues. Guy wasn't a dick, but I wasn't going to settle for crappy work.

You paid enough to be picky.

That job should be professional with little to no bubbles.

I paid $400 for Huper Optik at Mothers in Austin Tx. Will never go there again, ever. They suck *** and installed my tint in about 35 minutes, left micro bubbles everywhere and you could see where they cut around the edges. Had them reinstall one window after much debate. They said the others would heel properly in about two weeks, two weeks later it looked the same. I said eff it and called it a loss and vowed to never use them again.
If you're a perfectionist type and pay attention to detail then don't go there, if you're the type that doesn't care by all means.....
I''ll never set foot in their stores again.

So how hard on tinters am I, as hard as my hard earned money.

Don't know what the standard is like in the America so I can only comment from my experience in Australia. I work as a Car Dealer in Australia we get trade price and that is $275 fitted. Its Darkest Legal and its life time guarantee. I'm yet to see a single tint turn up with a noticeable bubble/hair/fibre/anything worth sending back.

To the OP you paid a certain amount and you expect a certain quality. If the tint doesn't live up to that expectation then you have a right to question it. Just make sure you go about it in the right manner. Just remember is not what you say but how you say it.

You spent 400 dollars on tint and chalked it up to a loss? Wow .... I pay 176 in Houston for a place that has been in business for 20 years and never have an issue with any car I take there.

You guys need to research more, then get service completed. And for the love of god, don't leave 400 on the table when you get a crappy job done to your car are you insane?

^^ Huper Optik is the cost. Not all tints are the same, and I guarantee the material used in your $180 tint is not as nice. I'd also be amazed if you could find someplace that will install Huper Optik for much less then $400.

The optik stuff is fantastic, but outside of show cars and collector pieces, are you really going to have your vehicle long enough to to notice the breakdown of materials?

I will say however the clarity is second to none.

So let me understand this -

My tint has zero bubbles or issues
Blocks UV just like other tint
Has complete visibility without haze or issues
Has no streaks or imperfections, looks phenomenal

What would the Huper Optik really get me over what I have installed? I don't go cheap, I go to places that do good work. They had some upgraded tint options there, and didn't even suggest them to me.

I've brought 5 cars to this place, all without issue, and all with immaculate tinting jobs...
