Tires and wheel for winter

Can someone suggest me a combo wheels and tires for the winter?
I've a GG so I prefer black wheels.

To save money, should I* downgrade to 17"?

Someone suggest Dunlop 3D's in anoither tread, any comments on them?

Thanks

17s will not fit over the brakes so your probably looking at 18s. I am going to go bigger for the summer and buy all weathers for the stock ones.

The only concern i'd have is with those massive brembo brakes.

Is there enough clearance to put a 17" wheel?

I'm in canada and i'll definately be getting a set of winter rims and tires, and 17" rims/tires will be alot cheaper than 18" rims/tires

I know the X has larger rotors, but I thought that it had the same calipers as the IX. I would think that 17s might fit given the stock rims for 8s and 9s are 17s. However, if the mounting point is much further out from center for the calipers your stuck. Sorry not to really answer that question, but I would think that there is hope that they would fit.

I might have recommended the Dunlop 3Ds (I did to someone) and I stand by that. They were GREAT in the snow and nearly as detailed and responsive as the stock Advans. They are a great tire for either rim size.

17's will not fit. You must run at least 18's. Some 18's dont even work.

TireRack should chime in here sometime because there are mixed ideas. To be honest, I don't know if 17" is big enough but it sure looks like it isn't (or if it is, it's just barely). That's just a measurement by eye and I wouldn't want to waste money on a smaller set of rims to find out they don't work.

There's a thread over in another Evo X forum showing a picture of an MR with 17" TE37's fitting over the stock brakes. I'm not sure what the spec of those wheels are, but at least you know some 17" rims fit.
