Help with wheel/tire size

Hey guys, been searching over and over and couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for, so I wanted to see if you guys could help me out.

I'm running stock rims/tires right now, and am planning on upgrading (stock tires dying VERY soon). I was originally planning on running Volk te37s, 18x10.5+22 with 275/35/18.

Now, what I want is a rim width and tire size that won't rub and still won't rub after I drop it (about .5" to 1"). Now I know the sizes I specified WILL rub, ESPECIALLY after I drop.

So my question now is, what size in rims/tires will be the best for me? Staying stock size is not an option because I like the aggressive look. Thanks guys!!!

12 seconds of reading will tell you that the 18x9.5 +22 with 265/35/18 is the most common "no-rub likely" fitment.

I didn't see anywhere that it said the 265/35/18 isn't likely to rub, I saw the 18x9.5+22 one right above it though.

So what about lowered? Is that going to pose an issue for rubbing?

too many variables to tell you honestly (tire size, wheel variance, camber you're running, etc.).

Be prepared to roll and be pleased if you don't have to.

Well said.
When venturing into the unknown, be ready for anything. If you want peace of mind, go with the safe rim width/tire he recommended.

Ok so now I'm down to this, 18x9.5+22 with 265/35/18 OR 255/35/18. Any thoughts on if this set up will rub after being lowered?

I'll reiterate: NOONE CAN TELL YOU 100% THAT YOU WON'T RUB unless you stick with the stock wheel and tire size.

That said, don't go with the 255/35/18. It's too far off from the stock size and will make all sorts of stuff messed up (odo, speedo, traction control possibly).

What tire are you thinking about getting? The reason I ask is that a 245 NT-05 is 10mm skinnier than a 245 star spec. So, if you go with a 265/35/18 NT-05, you'll have more room than if you went with a star spec or AD08.

Also, you keep saying "after lowering" but you never say how? Springs, coilovers? what? And how much camber are you willing to run? See all these things make a difference, but you just want someone to tell you YES it will work without rubbing and maybe they'll get lucky and be right, but this is the internet. I can tell you the moon is made of cheese and if you're dumb enough to believe me... well then...

As posted above, there is no real answer. It all depends on tire and drop.

Finally, someone that is actually helping me with this kind of stuff

I'm thinking of one of four tires, NT-05, NT-INVO, Star Spec, or Potenza RE011. So are you recommending that I just go with stock wheel/tire size or is going 265/35/18 a better idea than going 255/35/18?

I'm planning on running with RobiSpec KWs and I'm willing to run an aggressive street set up for my camber but nothing more, don't want my ride to be like my MR2.

If the moon was made out of cheese, then does it not grow mold after all these years because of the lack of oxygen in space?

the invo is not in the same class as the other tires, so I'd remove them.

In order of width for the same nominal size:
NT-05
RE11
Star Spec

In order of preferred size to keep ratios in check:
245/40/18 (stock)
275/35/18
265/35/18

^the above info is in the stickied post.

Do NOT get the 255/xx/18 tire. They are NOT the answer to your problem.

Again, NOONE will be able to 100% guarantee that you will or will not rub... so quit asking, buy something and hope for the best. But be prepared to rub and need to roll the rears.

Alright well this has enlightened me, I'm just gonna go with 18x10.5+22 on 275/35/18 and if I rub, I'll roll the fenders. I'm not going to be racing with these on, I'm saving the stock ones for that. If I do end up racing, you think that set up will hurt my performance?
