19" rims effects on speed

besides for the possible extra few pounds, do 19" rims have any other negative effects?

The tire size and specific brand is going to effect how they compare to stock more than anything. Overall the 19" wheels will be heavier for the same width 18" wheel but usually 19" tires are slightly lighter on average due to shorter sidewalls. The tire size I went with, 275/30-19 are about .2" smaller diameter than stock. This drops about 1-2 mph at the end of the quarter mile but it's not a deal breaker. Basically you want to run a tire that is the same diameter as stock if possible , going slightly taller will help the quarter mile but you may have to do some fender mods.

How do you check the speed with GPS?

I was going to ask the same thing, unless they were 30+ lbs a piece and your tires are square they shoudln't drop your car's ET's in the quarter mile by 1/2- 1 sec...

That's like 50-100 HP worth of speed!

If you get 275/30-19 tires they are within .1 - .2" of the same diameter as stock. Really the only drawback of lower profile tires is that for launching they don't have as much flex, but the tire selection plays a more important role than just the sidewall height alone.

I was under the belief that as long as the tire diameter is the same it should have no effect on anything. Unless the wheels are alot heavier or lighter. Then I believe it gets into rotional mass and such. Kinda like a lighter flywheel.

Larger diameter rims will create more rotational inertia resulting in more power required to rotate the larger wheel.

Depends. With a good tire and a stiff sidewall it wont matter as much but with a sloppy sidewall the larger rim with less sidewall will handle better. but there is such a little difference from a 18 to a 19 you most likely wouldn't see much difference anyway. Only feel the cracks in the road a little more.

275/30-19
I hear this is the way to go with tires, but you would have to roll the fenders right?

How is 255/35-19?

Sometimes... when it effects the overall size of the tire... larger diameter tires = more brake torque for you brakes to manage (we assume consistant friction)

Also as stated more inertia...usually, weight can offset this, its possible sometimes, but it depends what you are comparing too.....

Your wheel/tire diameter is your final drivetrain ratio, the advantage to large wheels is larger tires for more rubber to manage heat/wear.... and so you can fit those HUGE iron brake disks cause ya can't use CF.
