Question Replace all tires?

I had unrepairable damage to one of my tires, and got it replaced under road hazard warranty. I'm worried about damage to my diff though, and wondering if I should replace the other three, or just buy a new set altogether.

The tread depths measured:

Front: 4 mm, 7 mm (new tire)
Rear: 5 mm, 5 mm

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Did the dealership or the tire place you had replace it tell you that you should replace the others? I'm not a professional nor have i ever claimed to be, but from reading threads like this online for many years now, i've always been under the impression that the tires should all be the same or as close as possible.

sorry for the long drawn out crap, I been told that lately i want everyone to know my opinion and take it as word of the lord.... :P

ps... I say it, therefore it must be so rofl

(I'm assuming) It should be ok since it's only off by 1mm or 2. Not like you're changing 1 tire from 245 to like 255 or somehting. There is some play in the system I'm sure. No one would be changing tires just because it's 1mm off. Or else everyone here would be going through tires like there's no tomorrow.

Just have it shaved down.

It's almost 50% off in depth.

Definitely have it shaved! Not worth the potential wear on those diffs...

Thanks for the responses guys. It was my dealer mechanic that said the difference was pretty minor, but I'd prefer not to take chances.

I have only seen tire shaving services offered at TireRack. Is this type service usually offered at local tire shops?

I can't imagine all 4 tires would ever wear perfectly evenly, I suppose that's what tire rotations are for. That said, would a pre-emptive rotation even things out as well?
