Need help on coilovers.TY
We have 3 cars riding on Stance C/O. Street driven and AX/HPDE/TT . IX GR+ PRO - X GSR GR+Pro 3 ways - S2000 AL+Pro. On the 08 TT Champion + the 2nd place car - On the 09 TT Champion + 2nd place car. As you might guess we are very happy with the Stance Products
oh god. race results at autocross are pretty much worthless when you're talking about damper design. Smike Evo won how many on lowering springs. It proves next to nothing.
Talk to someone that actually rebuilds and dynos the shocks. The cheap stuff does not hold up over extended laps. it does not have proper valving. it does not do a myriad of things that a good shock does.
there are so many things wrong with defending stance or bc based on autox times or "its just stiff" that i don't know where to begin.
just talk to someone that does this for a living or has ridden on more than the cheap stuff and can give a better review.
Andrew or Myles at GT WORX will set you straight very quickly on why these systems only cost $1k and why people simply do not know what they are talking about when they recommend them to people looking for a nice ride or for track use.

But really, we all have coil-overs OEM. Our springs go over our struts. The mistake many make is in thinking they need to adjust every aspect of the suspension. Most never figure it out right. With the Swift (or GTWorx or RobiSpec) setups - I left those adjustments up to the engineers. They designed the springs to work with our struts. I was able to focus on alignment settings and tire pressures...oh and winning too

The cheap coil-overs are just that - cheap. And remember, I had a set of Megan Tracks. Save the cash, follow the advice here - get a proper set (PSS9, KW3, etc). Or go with a proper spring, strut, and sway combo.
Great reply Smike... I think you just made me lean towards swaybar / spring combo. Might just get the Eibach pro kit that has the sway bars with the springs. I do have bilsteins after all, be a waste to get rid of them and never get the new set up perfect.
U can throw on an "off the shelf" JIC FLT-A2 for 2 grand. My dad has those on his X and the ride is unbelievable. Match that with a sway bar and aggressive alignment and it'll perform on the track as well
Go with something else than Eibach imo. If Swifts were street legal in my country, I'd run them too.
Swifts are the only springs I'd run on the X....everything else is too low or the spring rates are crappy IMO. It won't be a huge handling increase but they don't suck and they look good.
Don't get coilovers if you don't need coilovers. $1k doesn't get you much and there are many drawbacks at that price point. Both Smike and DaveGSR are serious about handling AND they have both run popular sub-$1k coilovers on their cars in the past and are now telling you to stay away.
Swaybars front and rear will improve handling, and if you want the drop the Swifts will do the trick.
If you want a big increase in handling potential and are serious about tracking the car, get a good set of coilovers (and don't settle on something because it's cheap). But even in that case if you're new to tracking your car, then start with your car stock, maybe swaybars, and get a feel for things before going crazy.

I was not trying to say that the Stance C/O we use was the sole deciding reason we win. I was stating the fact we have multiple cars using the Stance products for all different types of driving and that we like them..I am not trying to start an arguement about who knows what about C/O. or continue the pricing vs quality debate. It was a very simple statement about our experience with the Stance products. FYI.. my car did have the stock Bils. with the GT Worx springs for the 2007 AX season..and the guy who owns my old setup still raves about them. And I liked that setup as well, a great combo for those who do not need the extra adjustibility a set of C/O will give you Pete
I've been told by tons of my friends "lower your EVO, please". I'm pretty sure I don't wanna go with shorter springs since they are not adjustable(might need to adjust the height between summer and winter). But when it comes to suspension,I'm totally a newbie. After reading so many threads of suspension, I got more confused with all those brands, models and the most important problem is the prices are so different.
I read a few reviews of some brands ,such as Tein, Cusco, BC, KW.But I totally can't tell the difference by just reading the words.
What I need is a set of coilovers that can lower my evo X , comfortable for DD(GF always complains, lol), and capable of tracking for a few times a year. and my budge is not a lot(less than 1500).Can anyone give me a lesson of the differences between all those pieces, and some suggestion on which one I should go with? thank you

My Stance 3-way GR Pro+ work very well for Time Trial. Numbers don't lie. Here's my 2009 EMRA TT ST2 results http://www.emraracing.org/RESULTS/re...rame_setup.htm
My apologies if I came off wrong to the legit track guys on here. I don't mean to insult your experiences or diminish your accomplishments. I'm talking from a product perspective and would love to see what skilled drivers like yourselves could do with a suspension from say JRZ on your car.
I'll be putting the BC Racing ER series coilovers through the ringer during the 4500 mile round trip of the 2010 One Lap of America in about 9 weeks. They do have the extra fluid in the remote reservoirs and the design overall looks solid so we'll see how they hold up with a 10k/12k spring combo. Many of the low end coilover setups had 8k/6k setups that likely didn't handle very well at the limits since the rear was just too soft compared to the front. It seems they are starting to turn that trend around and getting more aggressive combos going. Spending $1500-$2000 is about where you need to be before you can expect decent results, generally like others are saying the entry level $900-$1000 coilover setups are going to give you entry level results as expected.

I had Megan street series and track series on my evo. I autox for 2 years but did not track the evo. They served their purpose and definitely worth it for their value. Some people just don't have the mean or need for $3k coilovers because they won't get the full use out of it. If you get full track suspension, then you compromise for street and vice versa.
I had KW V3 on my s2000 last year and they worked out great, 3rd in the TT championship just behind the Evo9 and Evo10. I'm switching to Stance AL+Pro this year because I need to drop some mod point for my class. Seeing the success Pete and Tim had on their Evo last year, I'm confident that The Stance coilovers I installed will server their purpose fine for me.
