I've been told by tons of my friends "lower your EVO, please". I'm pretty sure I don't wanna go with shorter springs since they are not adjustable(might need to adjust the height between summer and winter). But when it comes to suspension,I'm totally a newbie. After reading so many threads of suspension, I got more confused with all those brands, models and the most important problem is the prices are so different.
I read a few reviews of some brands ,such as Tein, Cusco, BC, KW.But I totally can't tell the difference by just reading the words.
What I need is a set of coilovers that can lower my evo X , comfortable for DD(GF always complains, lol), and capable of tracking for a few times a year. and my budge is not a lot(less than 1500).Can anyone give me a lesson of the differences between all those pieces, and some suggestion on which one I should go with? thank you

You are having trouble because you want the impossible. An inexpensive coilover that rides comfortably on the street and yet does well at the track? For $3k I'd suggest Ohlins DFVs but most coils under $2k are worse than the stock suspension when it comes to travel and overall ride quality.
The only good quality coil (that I know of) below $2k is AMR Engineering. You definitely need to look into them but you'll still need to spend a few hundred more...

You're doing this because someone else is telling you to?
Tell them to **** off.
Honestly you're not going to raise and lower the car twice a year (with the resulting alignment cost to go with it). I recommend you just get a set of springs and be done with it. Good ride, no worry about extra things to break, cheaper (by far), no worry about how to set them at the track, etc.

trust me you dont want 1500 coils for winter time, they will turn into crap, springs will get rusted, hard to adjust after winter. Im running stance for summer, i like them for price.
Buying a set of coilovers for 1000$ is just like throwing them away... You can give me the 1000$ and I'll send you bashed up coilovers and you won't even have to wait for them to fall apart.
Stance and BC are exactly what I meant when I said cheap coils have no travel. They are made in Asia and you'll be losing your teeth when they bottom out.
I have the Robispec KW's but I don't think I'd buy a non-Robi v3 (much cheaper but they won't have the right springs or valving). At least if you buy from AMR you know you'll get a set that is configured for what you're going to do with them.
Gtworx is a sponsor on here. Give them a call and bend their ear for a few minutes. Of course they push what they sell (like every salesman) but he'll set you straight on the BC/Stance question pretty quickly.

mlomker, have you owned Stance coilovers or are you taking the words of others for your own?
For the price I paid I'm pretty darn happy with mine... and they've been through an entire autocross season (three clubs), multiple track days and daily driving. Sure they are stiff (12/14kg) so you feel the bumps... but I can't imagine ANY CO with that stiff a spring/strut being "compliant" around town. I know the Vorshlag MR I rode in with similar spring rates felt quite stiff.

The OP mentioned wanting a compliant DD ride and a racing coil isn't going to provide that. If you put softer springs on a cheap shock then it becomes a lot more apparent how bad they are.
If you're on a budget then springs, sways, and an RCK is probably the way to go. As another poster pointed out, adjusting the height is a pita in practice...who wants to mess up their corner balancing and alignment after spending hundreds dialing it in?

I'd try a set out before you are so quick to dismiss them. Honestly I do not think that a set of $3-4k ASTs is 3-4 times better than my Stance coilovers. I, and most people, would be much better served spending that $2-3k extra on driving/Evo schools.
I do agree that a more racing oriented suspension is not what the OP really needs, which is why I previously pointed him to a set of (MUCH) cheaper springs.
