GSR wheel paint...

hey all... I have a tiny spot of curb rash that I am fixing... actually it is fixed, and ready to be painted, but I have VHT's wheel paint in grey... don't know what color grey it's called which seems to be a close match to OE wheel paint, perhaps a bit dark, but then I also have the duplicolor which seems to be close as well... only thing is the duplicolor has flake in it, and the factory wheel doesn't seem to have any, or very little... so my first question is... can I wet sand a few runs out of the VHT I have already applied? and the second is... is there actually an OE paint for these wheels that I can buy?

I actually had bought the duplicolor graphite wheel paint to do all 4, but i'm just not sure now I have the energy after taking all the wheels off, stripping and coating the inside part of the rotor where it meets the wheel and tends to rust and just an overall good cleaning of the wheel wells to do all of that. Anyway, any OE wheel paint you all know of? Codes? Links? Thanks all.

well you know i'd like to do that honestly... but the problem is that right now I have about 11k on the car and don't quite need new tires... I think I can squeeze 3-5k more miles out of them... maybe, so I don't want to get the wheels done until I have the tires off to have them done... plus there isn't a place really local to me that does it and i've never seen a 35$ powdercoat price on a wheel in my searches... not saying there isn't those out there who do it for that price, but if I have to ship and all that crap it's just not worth it.

Theres a way of finding it out by using the casting number I believe. Take the wheel off and write down all the numers on the inside of it it and call the dealer. They will most likely not be of any real help when it comes to that but good luck. Another option is to take it to a body shop and see if they can tint to match them, but thats $$$.

yeah, the paint I used is just a LITTLE bit darker than the OE paint... I think if I wet sand and polish the clear it might give it a hint of being lighter... but if you look at the front and then rear, you really can hardly tell unless you are really looking for a difference.

We have a book here at work that has a chip chart. Which is basically a color with a hole punched in the middle of it and you hold it against certain trims (wheels, mouldings, anything not the car color) and you match it and mix it. Every manufacturer has about 10 pages in the book. Its tedious, but thats one way to find out.

I wonder if I could do that and then just buy a little... probably isn't worth it honestly though.. i'll need tires in 3-5000 miles and by that time I am planning on getting either new wheels if I have the money or doing a graphite color on them all.

I was hoping that somebody had an answer, cause I have a few chipped on my wheels that I would like to cover up as well.

A friend from work had a similar issue and he used some VHT and it matched it really well I'm not sure what the name of the color was though. The only way you could tell that he did something was if you were looking closely at it from about a foot away. On a side no I vote Matte black.

Where is this place that charges $35per wheel I was quoted$120 for each wheel, and that wont include me removing the previous tires and then having them put back on the car, and perhaps a rotation after.
