Best 245/40 18 tire?
I'd like to get your opinion on the best reasonable priced stock Evo X size tire. I just got some 18x8.5s for my Ralliart and I want to go with 245/40s. They will be summer only with some track days mixed in. I was thinking Nitto NT05s as a choice for sure. What do you guys suggest?

In the same boat here as Eric -- leaning towards the AD08s currently.

I don't have anything but good things to say about my Star Specs. They're lasting a good long while in a mixed daily driving/track day situation, they're quite, have great grip (even wet, which saved me on a rainy track day), and they're inexpensive.
I've heard good things about the NT05s, which I'd consider when it's time to buy new, but I'd have a hard time not buying another set of Star Specs with how good they've been.

+1 I just ran the Star Specs on track and they were great. No issues with heat and they had superb grip. My buddy was running NT05s and he loved them. I'd say they were a little slower than the Star Specs but that's purely subjective.
I'd say the only downside to the Star Specs were they let go a little sooner than the RE-01Rs that I had before but it really wasn't an issue because you heard the squealing of the tires before the ultimately let go. I don't think you can lose with either tire.

The NT05 is a good choice but if your looking for something with a little more grip I would suggest the R1R =x

+1 for Kumho XS
Very sticky. More so than the stock tires. Quiet on the road. The ride is firm but not harsh. Decent treadwear for 180 rating - have 13,000 miles on them so far with more to go. Price is less than the Star Specs. Sidewall isn't stiff though so a bit less responsive the Bridgestones or Star Specs.
I'll like to experiment with tires so I'll either try the Advan 08s or Star Specs next.

Anyone try the Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs? How do they compare to the Star Specs?
