Squeeky brakes

So my brakes started squeeking really bad this week. I'm kinda confused. The brakes only have about 15k miles on them since I replaced them about 2 years ago. Its really really loud lol. I'm going to take off my wheels today and check it out. From what I can see with the wheels on, the pads look fine. I'm going to clean them off and put some grease on them if they don't need replaced. Any thoughts on this?

most of the time is is dirt, that gets behind the pads. before i changed mine i would take it to power wash and hose the crap out of the brakes. stopped the sound for a few weeks. but they also may be worn depends on how aggressive you drive. check your rotars when they are cool and use your fingernail and run accross them whei the wheels on. if you can feel small ridges going from center to outside of the wheel, may be indication that either brakes are starting to go or you got something stuck in there causing the ridges.

I just hit 2000 miles on my 2011 GSR and mine are squeaking too. From what I know (and what I've read on the boards this is common with Evos (and pretty much any car with "big" brakes). It could be anything from brake dust or other debris between the pad and rotor (or pad and caliper), to moisture, to a multitude of other things. There is no 1 fix to stop it - sometimes cleaning works, sometimes you need to put some brake quiet in there, or maybe even shims... I think ceramic pads is an option as well, but they may not have the same performance as non-ceramic pads

yea they always have squealed but recently its gotten really bad. i thought something may have been wrong. i took off all my wheels and took out the pads to inspect them. everything was fine. i cleaned up the dust and now its gone for the most part.

Cleaning it all up and applying brake caliper grease on all the layers between the back of the pad to the pistons really helps. The regular "high temp" stuff will be ok for street driving but if you track it at a road course it will burn up and start squeaking again unless you get the really high temp grease. They really don't apply enough from the factory, probably just enough to get out of the dealer lot.

Same thing

Im getting the same sounds but with pleny of brake dust. During an oil change the dealer said they had about 70% life left. Ill try cleaning when i take the snows off. Should i be replacing brakes at 28k? I aslo get a loud ping sound when i change direction like rolling forward then letting off the clutch to go in reverse. Does that sound brake related or start troubleshooting elsewhere? Thanks for helping a newbie!

say you are goin forward and hit the brakes. then go backwards and hit the brakes, when you go back there be a clunk sound. thats just your brake pads moving a bit. its normal nothing to worry about.

under layer on the pad is what makes the noise on the pad. Not enough under layer creates pad noise. This is why race pads sequel like a pig. Junk the brembo pads as they suck and get something better

I had squeeky brakes until I recently changed my pads to the direct replacement magic pads. It really did stop the squeaking and much less brake dust than the stockers. I always thought squeeky brakes was just because of the stock pads.

Its the Metal backing plate of the pad that makes the noise not the friction material, the vibration that is transferred while braking from the friction material to the plate rings the plate like a chime. If there is not enough under layer to stop this vibration you get sqeeky brakes. Storys ending brembo pads blowwww

Someone on this or the other forum suggested doing several hard stops from highway speed to 0. This should get rid of the squeal temporarily. I would've personally tried it since I get the squeal too but I saw the post yesterday and I just put on my new Dunlop Star Spec's so no wild braking for me until break-in.
