Brake advice

My evo x mr has about 70k on it And there's alot of squealing going on when I brake. When I brake from higher speeds there is no squealing but when I brake from slower speeds there's alot of squealing. Do I need to replace the rotors? I remember the last time I went to get my car serviced they had said i needed to replacing something as it was getting worn. I didn't really pay attention as the last time I went in for service I had to bring my car back 2 times because they didn't ballance my winter tires properly. But he said the replacement was $3200.

If indeed I need to replace my rotors what would you guys recommend? It is my daily driver and I do not go to the track. I called local dealership to ask about the rotor costs and the stock front rotors are 1100 each and the rear ones are 418 each. They also suggested girodisc which are 500 for the front each.

I am not to sure which one is better the stock rotors or the girodisc for my situation or is there any where else I could get them cheaper. Does anyone know where in Alberta or online that delivers to Canada, I could find some that would be cheaper or is my best bet to go with the dealer? I am also going in on Monday for a type c service which includes a brake inspection.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Likely pads. You're hearing the wear indicators.

Go do a different shop.

You need to get minimum thickness of your rotors. Then you will know if you need rotors as well as pads.

MAP can ship to Canada. They have good blank rotors and good deals on brake pads.

You can also buy from us directly. Right now we have a special on a set of 1-piece gold zinc slotted rotors for the EVO X for $499.00 for the FULL car set. We can get you setup with our Magic Pads as well which have virtually no dust and no noise and are significantly less expensive than some of our competitors products.

Shoot me an email if you're interested and I can get you all setup. Jess@girodisc.com. Thanks!

It's a DD that doesn't track, people.

OP: Get a set of Centrics from, for example, KNSbrakes. About $350 for a set.

I was under the impression you wanted something a bit better than stock. If you are looking for just blank, plain rotors we sell our Girodisc Bailout rotors (plain face, OEM replacement) for $360.00. Let me know if you are interested!

I have a similar situation but car only has 30K miles on it. Super squeaky! The stock brakes are super expensive and really dusty. Is there a recommendation for less dusty brakes for normal slightly aggressive driving. Also can I replace just the pads with something other than Brembro or do I have to get new rotors and pads if I change brands? Sorry if these are dumb questions.

^you can run whatever pads you'd like. you don't need to run brembo brand.

as far as dust, in my experience there is a trade off with dusty brakes:

less dust usually = less stopping power

and

more dust = more stopping power

there are tons of pads to choose from. it's all about what you want out of them. personally i can't run street pads.....but I also don't drive the car often on the street.

Hi everyone, I am in the same situation as ProfessorX except i am at 40k miles. I also own a 2008 EVO X MR and my brakes are up for change. My rotors have a lip on them so I need them replaced... From all the research it seems that the MR has a 2-piece rotor for the front correct? I noticed that the MR OEM rotors for the front are more than the GSRs. This is because it's a 2piece right?

Can anyone tell me my options are, as I am confused to what I should buy. I don't Auto X and this is my daily driver. I've looked at the OEM and Girodiscs and Works rotors. I do not wanna pay 2800 to the stealership. Can I just order say the Girodisc 1 piece slotted rotors for front and rear? Or should I just go with 2 piece all the way around or go OEM....

If i change rotors, I don't have the change the calipers as well correct? Thanks for all the help!

Just get your stock rotors turned, no reason to completely replace a set that only has 40k street miles on them. If you do replace the, send me your used ones

What do you mean by getting them turned...? I asked the dealership to resurface but they didn't recommend it as the lip is too deep and would not be possible. I am just trying to figure out for an MR.... do I need to go with a 1 piece vs a 2 piece for both the front and rear...

Take them elsewhere to get resurfaced, most auto parts stores will do it for cheap. If you buy new, you can get 1-piece to save money.

I am not sure what dealership you are using here in Alberta, but the set for the GSR are way less. maybe you can put the less fancy GSR rotors on there? not really sure, but i know someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I use Platinum in Calgary for a lot of my stuff

Also I got a set of Hawk HP pads put in by them last time i needed pads, way less dust. next to none compared to the stock pads, even after a full day at race city. stopping power is still great with them.

Yeah, I kinda regret not getting the GSR being that it's a funner drive, and cheaper brake maintenance! but with the heavy traffic around dc, i needed the MR as a DD so i shouldn't complain about the prices. I just want the best for the money and I just wanted to know people's opinions. =D I'm leaning towards the 2 piece rotors from girodisc. =D
