yes...that is my tire size. the problem is some good tires that i really like dont have that size like nitto05. the 255 is bigger it looked nice for me and you will reduce your nasty gap by 3mm. now im gonna lower my car with progress spring will see.

The extra width and height makes the tire look like it should be the stock size.

That will depend on your brand of tires, mine I like it.

Actually it is bigger by a bit per discount tires, but they are gonna be bald anyway.

255 width on a 8.5 wheel can make things a little sloppy.

It will look cool, and in general make cornering a little poorer since it's too wide (not unsafe, but too wide nonetheless), for a 8.5" wheel.

No, 255 on a 8.5 will be just fine.

+1. It will definitely work, you will just loose a little handling due to less sidewall "strength". You prolly won't notice it much if it is a DD though..

It depends on the tire. The generalization that 255/40/18 will not be "sloppy" compared to a 245/40/18 (both on OE wheels) is as bad as the generalization that it will be "sloppy." It's right on the edge of where adding tire width will actually lower lateral grip. It's a worthless argument without specifics.
