Quick question: issue with reinstallation

Im trying to get my car up and running before work. Does this piece need to be forced together more? There looks to be a little notch where a bolt might pass through but I can't seem to get it closer. Or is that notch not relevant to the bolt. There is rust that might need to be removed but I'm not sure at this point.

I just replaced the ball joint with the whiteline one this past weekend.

And yes that notch should be aligned properly so the bolt will pass through that hole without much if any effort.

You should be able to grab the ball joint with some pliers or a vise (pad it with some rubber if you want) and twist it to get a better alignment of the notch.

Is this what you were talking about?

Although as the other poster said your picture is not clear, but it also looks like the ball joint shaft is stopping at the height of the bolt hole? As I mentioned the notch on the shaft has to be aligned with the bolt hole and the bolt be able to slide easily in.
