Question Nitto NT05? Or buy something else?

Hey guys,

I am about to replace the factory tires on my 2011 EVO X. The factory tires lasted me approximately 10,500 miles. I am thinking about going with the Nitto NT05 for the replacement. I found them for $163 a tire shipped and this seems to be a good deal from shopping around. I currently live in Northeast Pennsylvania but the car will never see the snow. However, it does see some rain when I'm driving it in warmer weather when it is out.

I really don't want an "all season" tire becuase I bought the car for its handling ability and simply do not want to sacrifice that even though the tires will last longer. The car saw 10,500 since March when I bought it and I plan on it seeing even less in the coming year.

I enjoy spirited driving whenever it presents itself and want tires that will keep up with those demands.

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure this is the tire for me.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I am lowered on H&R Springs with 20MM Spacers. Rear fenders are also rolled.

I have driven my friend's car with NT05. It has good handling ability but road noisy. Thought it has some problem with his wheel bearing but he said its tires. lol I would get Hankook rs3 or v12.

He said rain, so I'd say StarSpecs over RS-3s. If he doesn't car about lateral grip and responsiveness, then V12s are fine, too, but they really are not in the same league as RS-3s and StarSpecs. (We just had a nasty thread about this, too.)

It will rarely see rain in the coming season. The only way it will see rain is if I'm out somewhere with the car and it starts raining.

The main concern is dry handling. I've read mixed reviews on the NT05 tire.

A friend of mine has Falken Azenis RT-615K and he likes them but they are also $80 more a tire. Anyone ever run these?

Star specs will probably have the best rain handling in the group of tires you're looking at, and they will also last the longest. They have pretty good grip (better than nt05's and rt615k's), but not as good as ad08's and rs3's.

i've had the nt05 on my stock bbs rims and also running it on my current rpf1 setup.

the thing with the nt05 is that it must be properly warmed up in order for you to see the full effects. but once it's properly heated, boy does it stick... i love it, but some people hate it. i think the people hating on these tires have never properly heat cycled the tires prior to ripping it open.

You do know that getting a tire warmed up is completely different from properly heat-cycling a new tire, yes? It isn't clear that you do from the above.

There are really nice twisty roads here in PA up on the mountains. This is where I would really like the tire to shine. I might try out the NT05 for this season and then if I don't like them get a set of RS3

skip the NT05's and join the RS-3 or Starspec Club

So far the RS-3's have lasted me 20k and the only issue has been road noise as they wear.

NT05's are great in the dry, but the starspecs would be better in the rain. Cant beat the NT05 for the price.

I'm currently running NT05s. They are pretty good but do not do well in the rain. Dry they are awesome. I was also looking at RS-3s. I would suggest one of those two..

wow, i was only able to muster 12k out of my previous nt05 and the nt05 i have now is almost bald at 10k.

you'll get road noise on the nt05 too so the rs-3 are looking real good right now.

thats my main use for these tires as well (daily commute calls for 22 miles of twisties). you won't regret purchasing the nt05 if you dont mind the noise and thread rating.

one thing i really like about the nt05 is the sidewall. it feels a lot stiffer than the stock advan. this however might be due to the tires size im running (275/35/18).
