long wheel stud install - rear

If you've looked into or actually swapped wheel studs, then you know that the fronts are easy and the rears are a total pain in the ... er, rear. If you get the 3" ARPs (#100-7717), you have to remove the rear hub to do the job. But I don't need studs that long. In fact, an extra 14mm would be quite sufficient.

example: http://www.racingbrake.com/EVO-03-07...k-p/evo-57.htm

So, here's the question: does anyone know if you can swap in studs this length without removing the rear hubs?

Would a "size DOES matter" reference work here, or would that be a bit overdone?

It would need to be witty. Something like "small enough to get it in while long enough to do the job."

Not that I claim to be witty.

Can you verify that you only need to unbolt the hub from the knuckle (and then turn it slightly to the side) and don't have to remove the axle nut?

I can't verify. I didn't do the rears, EFI Logics did it and only indicated that it required pulling the hub. They did not indicate whether they could swing it out of the way. I believe they did just swing them because I don't recall needing new cotter pins for the axle nuts.

This has all the signs of a job that I'll start and not be able to finish, then. Perfect. But, thanks.
