Cost for brake replacement
Cost for brake replacement
Hey all,
New to the forum, currently own an RX-8 but I'm looking at a 2010 Evo X GSR with 41k on the clock. The dealer that has it for sale says the tires have 10k miles on them, and the brakes have never been replaced.
I want to use the need for brake replacement as a bargaining chip...how much does the average brake job on an Evo go for? Anything special about the rotors or pads? Lets assume i want to replace stock for stock.
Any other suggestions for a first time buyer?

Brake jobs on the X are ultra easy. I would expect most shops to charge you around 2 hours labor to change pads and bleed the system. If you're concerned about the pads, just negotiate the dealer to include a brake job in the cost of the car. Or get them to knock a few hundred off the price and do it yourself.
Try for a $1000. See if they go for it. You can easily do good pads and rotors yourself for a good bit less than that.
It is really easy to do pads. Takes no time at all. I wouldn't want them to do it for me in the sale because they might use some cheap pads just to save costs.

For real!! I about fell out the damn chair when he said that. Apparently the OEM pads from the Mitsubishi dealer are made of gold instead of ceramic. Instead, I bought some from autozone and installed myself.

There are aftermarket pads that stop better, have less brake dust and are cheaper than the oem Brembo pads. Have them knock off $$$ and use that for aftermarket pads. Just not autozone pads.

I bought the auto zone pads, great for DD, not sure about crazy track driving (probably suck), only thing is they have less initial bite but noticeably less brake dust! Got mine for about 60$ a pair or something like that and 2 hours of labor.
$411
A local performance shop replaced my front and rear stock pads with Hawk Pads for $411 total (approx 50% parts, 50% labor). I was very happy with Hawk for daily-driving - stopping distances felt about the same - quiet - lower dust.
Is this true?
(the gold part)
I have girodisc magic pads... and Theyre a tad squeaky until warm, but great for DD & Maybe light autocross use...
