Girodisk wear fast?

Hello, I had girodisk rotors and Rabestos ST43 pads installed about 8 months ago. I put about 15k miles on them, no track days just normal street driving. I noticed that they are pretty worn. The pads are fine. What's stranger to me is the rear seem more worn than the front and the right side is more worn than the left.

Is this normally how fast they wear and is it normal for one side to wear that much faster?

Thank you

I was thinking about the same setup as well for track. Subscribed.

With electronic brake proportioning the valve the usually reduces hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes has been eliminated. This causes the rear brakes to handle more of the brake load and the car stops faster. The ABS system also pulses the rear brakes under heavy breaking to keep them from locking up and helps you to stop faster.
This all comes at the price of your rear brakes wearing faster then your fronts.

Thanks for that info. But what about the speed at which the girodisk wore? Seemed pretty fast.

Well Rabestos ST43 are not really a street pad. If you daily drive them they'll be rough on your rotors (as you've seen) and not terribly effective as they are designed for much higher heat applications.

I been running Racing Brake ET500 pads on my Girodisc 2 piece rotors for at least 15k miles with 1 track day included (Carbotech XP10 pads for the track day) and mine still look just fine. I think running those ST43's daily killed the rotors.

Ok, I could have swore I read that those disks lasted with the Raybestos pads. I did research before getting them but maybe I read wrong.

As far as the Raybestos not being effective on the street, they stopped scary good hot or cold. I don't know how I'm going to go to less aggressive pads. It's going to feel like I have no brakes but I dont want to be replacing the disk rings every 8 months. I guess I'll just have to use the Raybestos for track days.

I'm going to miss them squealing like pigs. I started to enjoy the stupid comments strangers would give me.

Thanks for the responses.

Actually found this on the Girodisk site in regards to the Raybestos.

"Raybestos ST-43 are our favorite intermediate track pad. Very aggressive pad, yet easy on the rotors."

Ok I spoke to Martin at Girodisk. What great customer service. Spoke to me for like 20 min. Explained it all to me. My above quote from their site is true at the track. He explained to me that the Raybestos on the street won't transfer brake compound to the disk. He suggested a few different brands one was the Giro SS Pad. He also explained to me if I do switch to the Raybestos for track use only to drive back from the track with them on to remove any transferred compound before installing the daily driving pads. Only pads he didn't suggest was Hawk which was strange because I keep seeing people rave about them. Maybe it's just Hawk and Girodisk rotors don't go together well or maybe it's just his opinion. Either way with that customer service I'm glad I got the brakes.

Oh he also took the time to tell me how to change the rings myself and what to look out for.

Like you found out, any race compound pad is going to eat rotors on the street when the pads aren't up to temp.

Glad you had a good discussion with the guys at Girodisc. They seem to be a good bunch of guys.

Yea my fault. I think I'm going to get thier SS pad for my daily driving.

But get their rotors. They are great. I did their rotors, SS brake lines and the Raybestos pads and it was scary how fast it stopped. I'm use to it now but the first week or so I probably would have pitched myself through the windshield if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. lol.

Finally getting to go to the track (end of the month) since I dropped like 20+ grand in mods so I'm excited to see the difference. These brakes will help a lot in confidence braking later than I did on stockers.
