newb needs help

ok i was just driving on the freeway right now , going about 80mph in 5th gear and i downshifted to third and my rpms shot way high , so i punched it and went a little over redline and i heard this wired noise , allmost like a shotback or something , so i shifted to 4th blah blah , so i get off the freeway and now i hear this like pshhh noise on each side of my car, it allmost sounds like when your driving by sprinklers my current mods are RRM CAI and RRM Axle back exaust. so yeah , did i miss up my car?

hmm, i really dont know if your car is messed up. I over shot and my car reved all the way to 8k the first day i got it and she's fine. My only thing is why would you down shift to 4th doing something of 80mph? Unless you where going somwhere around 30-45mph + than it would be ok. From what I was told, dont downshift to a gear that your higher in the RPM band.

Ex: If your in 4th, dont downshift into 3rd, if your driving above 3000 rpms.

When I hear hissing noises like that from a car, the first thing I always check are the vacuum lines. You may have blown one off.

they will normally do a brief check of things I wouldn't tell them about redlining or racing unless you want your warrentee voided you may want to say it made a wierd noise on the freeway or something but I wouldn't go into detail.

can i ask why you decided to go from 5th to 3rd?...thats a pretty odd down shift...as id you didnt already know...3rd gear will go up to ~76ish depending on mods...i can see going down to fourth...at that point fuel cut off may have come in but like people stated...maybe a vacuum line...

As I understand it, they have to prove that the mod caused the malfunction. I can't remember the name of the law, but it is a law that they must prove that. I'm not a tuner, but I just don't understand how lots air (other than forced) to the engine can cause malfunctions. Has not happened to me yet, so I don't know who you can call. I would go back to the dealer, or another dealer, and get answers. Good luck!!
