A turbo, number 1. Probably the best turbo for a custom job would be a Mitsubishi 14B from the first generation eclipse. You'd need a good shop, skilled at welding, and mandrel bending pipe. You would probably want an intercooler, a boost controller, and some form of extra engine management.

The one thing that might be difficult to obtain is an exhaust manifold for a turbo. I'm not positive, but, it is possible that the one from RPW, if they would sell it seperately, could work with the 14B. More than likely, however, all of these things would end up being more than a kit.

My thought too, but, there are those who are "do-it-themself"ers. Only reason I know what I know was that I was looking at a custom setup, and had found a 14B for 150 bucks. It would appear that a sponsorship deal I had hoped for in order to make it a reality... well, didn't materialize. I only wish 5000 would fall in my lap...

I'd like to see a post on how that guy did it. I've thought about several ways to do it for less, and the one thing that I can't quite figure out is the exhaust manifold, unless you get it from RPW, or have someone cast one/modify one for you.

What turbo did you opt for?

Don't forget oil lines, proper boost control, FPR, and an AFC(avoid rich/lean scenarious).

Air/Fuel Controller. Add more fuel if necessary so you don't run lean and end up melting your piston to your cylinder wall. Just slightly handy.

It all depends on what you buy. Look at around at various manufacturers. Also need to remember things like a blow off valve and how you're going to route that and a waste gate as well (if the turbo doesn't already have an internal one). A turbo is not the easiest creature to play with.

dude, seriously, it is extremely harder then you think to make one, i have doen mine, and im still finding in missing **** !
and this is on a carby...

you gotta think, oil lines, intake lines, what pressure you gunna run, you gotta get a special oil, intercooler, boost control, mendrel bent pipes, intake manifold (for larger air/petrol intake)
you gotta make the exhaust manifold( yes that looks easy, but remeber, 15 mm plate is frikken hard to cut with an oxy, i have just spent 80 bucks for a guy down here to cut with a plasma cutter), on fool injected cars you gotta look at **** like eeprom programming, air/fuel mixture and a ****load of other stuff... sometime its easier to buy a kit, as i can't cause i got carby !
neways, i hope we dont put you off turbo'n, as mine is nearly back on, and i can't wait !
