Evo Viii, Evo Mr, Sti

Hi everyone, this is my first post, i'v been searching here a lot to get some news about the evo. Now that the mr is comin out next year, i am even more confused what to get. Does the mr comes with leather or not? i also heard tha the mr has smoother suspension.
There is the EVO 8, MR and STI, i don't know which one to get, the evo lookes a lot better in person than looking at pics. Its hard to decide and probably some of you guys went thru that also, tell me why u decided to by the Evo.
My main concern is ride quality, reliability, performance, please give me some suggestions, comments, reviews.
I own a lexus gs 300, and i know that the ride quality wont be the same, but at the same time i don't wanna feel every bump in the road, NYC roads are crappy. thanks for your input.

I started an MR vs. Evo thread. Just look a little further.

Also, there is a HUMONGEOUS Evo VIII vs. STi thread already. It has like 2500 posts. Have fun!

How do yu figure??

Performance MR and VIII are identical, (whats faster 350Z track or Touring??)same thing

Interior is actually a personal preference, i dont like the STI interior especially with all that plastic, the only think I like are the guages. Some people like STI some like GSR b/c of the leather/sunroof option.

You guys crack me up! So what exactly is it that makes the EVO VIII so much better than the '05 STi? The .08 of a second that it beat the STI thru the Road and Track slalom course, or the .2 G advantage it had on the skid pad, or how about the 1 second difference on the Streets of Willow Springs? You guys act like the difference is so huge that they shouldn't even be compared. They're just about dead nuts even in the power department now with the '05 Evo's getting a better power delivery thanks to an increase in boost to 20+ psi, the STi makes it with 13psi (less stress?) . They're exactly the same 0-60, with the exception that the EVo gets there in 2nd gear and for some stupid reason Subaru made the gear ratio so wacked that you have to shift into third to get 60 with it but the times are dead even at 4.7 (be glad Subaru used a weird ration or you might have lost that one). The handling on the STi can easily be brought into range with the Evo; the Evo is lower, has a larger wheel base has a much quicker steering ratio and has wider tires... The US STi's get softer springs than our Euro pals thanks to some idiot which thinks us Americans like soft mushy cars, So If you spend $300 and get the proper STi springs which mate up to the struts better and lower the car 25mm your half way there. Then change the tires to the proper 235 width and there's even more grip... and in a few months Pro Drive is coming out with their electronically controlled active coil over set-up which is going to rock http://www.prodrive-usa.com/product_...d=10&pid=76&s= . And how can you say that you like the interior of the Evo better? It's downright horrible! The dash absolutely sucks, you can barely see it during the day time, and everything else just looks so cheap and normal. Plus the fact that everything on the EVo is an upgrade, where as the STi comes with more stock. Don't get me wrong... I like the EVO, in fact I have an MR on order but in my personal opinion the differences between the two are so small that it boils down to who's driving more than which one you're driving. And yes I've driven an Evo quite a bit at the track so I Know first hand that there's not that big of a difference except with the interiors.

Dus does have a few good points the new STi's are getting better and much more competitive performance wise with the Evo. The performance specs are so close that driver alone would make the difference. STi has a nicer interior hands down and makes a better daily driver car. Where The Evo makes up for it with its larger turbo and stiffer suspension. With very little money you can make the Evo a race car, the STi you would need to replace the whole turbo if you really want to improve its power much. And up until this year the suspension would need a lot of work now the suspension only needs minor tuning to hang with the Evo. But another thing to keep in mind most 05 STi's are running 37-39 grand vs the Evo price tag at 31-33 grand. 6 thousand bucks in your pocket is enough to make the Evo utterly kill any chance the STi ever had.

my thoughts exactly...he's getting an Evo---owned!

Oh, by the way, my leather, sunroof, and sound upgrade brought my 04 GSR to 29500, still about a thousand under invoice. That's still about 4 grand less than the STi.

I'm not a die hard fan of either the STi or the Evo, I like both cars a great deal and am very happy that the US is finally getting some of the cool Japanese cars. I just find it funny that so many people on this board and on the Subaru boards are so brand loyal that they don't look objectively at other cars from other brands; ie: Evo guys bag on the STi and STi guys bag on the Evo. Most people have driven one or the other but not many have much time behind the wheel of both and yet they make their judgements based off of magazine articles or some other persons opinion. The reason I have a deposit down on the MR is because after I bought my STi the wife liked it so much that I didn't get to drive my car anymore so I have to buy something else that is comparable to the STi otherwise we both won't be happy. I don't want to buy two of the same car and I like the changes they've made on the MR so why not have the best of both worlds. I was defending the STi because if you've ever driven one you would know that it's an amazing car and I don't know many people including a friend of mine that owns a normal VIII and another friend with a race ready VII that can leave me for dead driving their Evo's... There's just not that big a performance advantage to either car...now a FQ-400, that's a different story!

i own a 04 bby evolution, and i looked at the sti, but i went with the evo for a few basic reasons. out here the sti seems to be around more often, i saw a 60 yr old man the other day towing one with his rv. my evo is the first on the whole coast, and i fugure there isnt another one with in 50 miles at least. the sti was nice, but the local subby dealer wanted 44k for one. now sure i could go in there and argue for hours about how i wasnt going to pay that, but being big, i fit much better in the evo than i do in the sti. i do love the mechanical sound of the boxer motor in the sti, it makes such a distinct sound. but hey you win and lose, you will be happy with both cars. if money is no big deal get the mr. IMHO the mr isnt worth the waiting, over-pricing, and hype that it has cracked up. there isnt that much special stuff about it. i wouldnt mind the 6 speed, but i am happy with the five. it wasnt enough to justify waiting for it, and paying the premium for it. i dont buy into all that shiz that the evo isnt a freindly daily driver either, sure it requires attention, and total control, but it never complains about running hard. the subaru is said to be alittle bit more docile, but i never noticed that much of a difference in my quick drive of one. good luck. we are toalking about three great cars here. do your reserch and choose the one you want most. you wont be dissapointed with any of them. good luck
