I just bought an 2003 Evo with only 206 miles and never registered. I paid 25 k, and was wondering if that's a really good price or just a fair price. My second question pertains to the clutch. Is there some kind of restrictor that I should be disabling to allow the clutch to live longer? Is it something akin to some valve on the 2002 WRXs? Thanks for your replies.

congrats, that is a pretty good price for the Chicagoland area at least. I dont know about where you are but still seems very good. Enjoy.

Welcome, that is a pretty good price you paid. As for the clutch my advice would be leave it alone, not all the clutches go bad early. I have 16K miles on my car and I do beat on in once in a while, I dont beat the car to hell but I like to get on it and the clucth feels like it did the day I bought it.

Excellent price. The clutch should not be an issue depending on your driving style. Break the car in propoerly for the first thousand miles, no hard launches and try to keep it below 3k. When you start upgrading then you will need a new clutch.

It seems like some folks have wretched luck with their cars while others have really good luck with their cars. Is there any difference in build date, or is it that people just whoop on their cars?

Welcome rocket motor. There is a restrictor valve that is slows down the clutch engagement. The only way to disable this is to take it out. Try a search.

Well i installed SS clutch line so it engage better not sure why but it helps , i got almost 25k on my car and stock clutch, you figure it out, dont abuse it too much and you will be fine, i was on autox before and drag, let say there is always time and place to go crazy - i mean when you have to :-)

enjoy your new toy, welcome aboard.

gratz on your new ride bro!

regarding the clutch:
I have 29k miles on my stocker, I removed the restrictor from the slave cyl. and installed the SS clutch line at 14k miles. It chatters once in awhile, nothing to complain about, I respect my clutch though, no 6k dumps ... etc...

Is it a long and involved process to remove the restrictor? Do the SS clutch lines and brake lines really make that much of a difference?

yes - a much improved difference, you can actually FEEL the clutch engage, and the pedal is stiffer. The process took 2 hours max. very easy, there might be a tutorial floating around, do a search
