Why change a BOV?
Why change a BOV?
Another newby question....
I see several vendors selling aftermarket BOVs. My question is why upgrade this part? I assume that a BOV releases the excess pressure from the turbo (is this like a wastegate?). My first thought was that an aftermarket BOV might allow for more pressure, but it seems like boost must be controlled by the computer. Many posts talk about the sound of the BOV, but I can't believe people are upgrading just for the sound.
Can anybody clarify why to upgrade the BOV?

the stock one is fine if you dont upgrade the car.......if you're upgrading and turning up the boost, the plastic oem unit might leak at higher psi's........alot of people do buy a new valve for the sound.....
i have heard, even if you do not mod that the stocker will start to leak. alot of people replace so that they can vent to atmosphere and get that whooshing sound when they change gears.
You change it because the POS plastic BOV that comes stock cannot handle high boost or they develope a crack and leak. EVOPrincess, check out the new GReddy RS BOV. It is much different, trust me
