The first 5 mods

What would a good start be? I was thinking the usual: full turbo back exhaust and intake, and maybe a nice set of rims, but what would you do for your first 5 mods? I was also thinking about a short shifter and a set of 270 in/ex cams, but I also read that with a boost controller and an AFC you can gain ~40whp by just keeping the boost level up throughout the range.

So I guess my first n00b question is "what would you consider to be the best first 5 mods on an otherwise stock Evo?"

engine wise it is full TB exh with test pipe, boost control(I prefer electronic),cams(272/264 my preference), but they all work, fuel management or flash, tuning...This is a headbanger!!

Exterior wise...a set of Volk or racing Hart is good enough for me.

Happy Tuning!!

I can think of alot more, but that would cause me to spend some cash..

Definitely start with a good quality turbo-back exhaust, BOV, intake, cams (i wont specify cause everyone has different preferences), cam gears, and some sort of fuel controller. As for rims, volk has some really nice ones.

Driver training at a HPDE is a really good mod. Learning what this car is really capable of in it's stock form is really a eye opening experiance.

Cool, thanks for the input. I definitely want to go with a custom 3" turbo back exhaust - I have all of my exhaust custom made (found it was a lot cheaper than buying one) and I'll probably just get a cannister somewhere...I like the look of some of the Carbon fiber exhausts, like the one HKS has. Anyone know if they just sell the cannister? I know of a few other places that make carbon mufflers if not, but I don't want to put on inferior parts
Intake I could probably have custom made, too, but I might just buy that premade. Not sure on which one is the best though. I was thinking of the HKS intake, but I'm not really a fan of the foam filter as I have read that sometimes they disintigrate and go into the turbo . Then maybe cams...my friend runs 270 intake and exhaust, and it seems to work out pretty nicely for him. Would having the 264 intake push the powerband a little to the left (Assuming the 272s push it to the right)? Ah, so many questions...I think I'll just use the handy search function so I don't **** anyone off

I got confused when I was looking through the tuning section. Anyone here know which is really the best bang for the buck when it comes to tuning? I know you can only do so much to a car before you should have it retuned, but this is something I really wouldn't be able to do myself if it gets too complicated, and I really don't need something overkill. With full exhaust, intake, 272 in/ex cams, and possibly a larger FMIC and better piping, which management system would be the most cost efficient and user friendly, and if I were to get that would I be able to get advice here and possibly tune it myself (like I know the AFC from A'pexi is easily tuneable by the user)? Thanks for the info. Also, with that setup, would I need to use larger injectors or would the stock injectors be OK?

stock injectors are fine in this case, a flash would not be bad at this time, but something like the emanage or cheap AFC will work wonders for you. If money or a little extra is not the issue, roll with the AEM, it cannot be beat! Happy Tuning!! I myself have the emanage, and would only switch to the AEM.
