Mitsu going under...
Mitsu going under...
Recently, I've been reading more and more about Mitsubishi's poor sales in the United States. Many people are saying that it is possible that sometime very soon, Mitsubishi will cease operations with their American arm. I dread this possibility, as I am not yet an Evo owner and the idea of buying used is totally unappealing, to say the least. The point of this post is not to ask how Mitsubishi is doing; we all know their sales in America have been pretty awful lately. My question to the users of this forum is more about the chance that Mitsubishi will really close the door on us. As it says to the left, I'm saving up for an Evo right now and it would just kill me if I had to settle for less if Mitsubishi closed up shop. There are also warranty concerns stemming from the fact that all Mitsubishis will effectively become "orphans" if the company shuts down here. So, what do you all think the chances are that in the next few years Mitsubishi will truly call it quits, and what indications do you have to back up your response?

i personally dont think mitsu will close up shop in the US at least not for a while becaause they are releasing a new evo, a new eclipse, a new galant with some sort of sport package, etc. basically it looks like mitsu has observed the evo's sales and has tried to make their lineup sporty like the evo. i believe mitsu is owned by chrysler, so they HAVE money its just a matter of if they want to spend it. If anything, i hope they only market the Evo here instead of getting rid of the US branch of the company all together
Mitsu is not " owned" by Chrysler. Do some research. They spent a lot of money on the new Eclipse, revamped Galant, sportier SUV's, and now a rebadge Dodge truck. ( to replace the mighty Max they had years ago.) They are going to try and turn things around the next 2-3 model years before doing anything drastic. Thats not to say they couldn't sell out their US operations. Their Normal Ill plant is appealing to many manufacturers. As well as their current dealer network.
People in the US need to learn that Mitsu in Japan is a LARGE corporation. They don't particularly need the US car segment to survive. Cars in the overall grand scheme of Mitsu is a small portion of their product offerings.

i love mitsubishi big screens. Those are pretty popular. sorry for not having anything more constructive to add. I just know mitsubishi digital is doing very well. I've heard Mitsubishi-Fuso is the dead duck part of the company right now.

good chance to go under, bad management, bad customer service, considering the average age of the people that buy lancers and ralliarts and evos, dont you think they would rather give good service and stand behind warranties, instead of making them go i will never buy another mitsu again. that cant be good for the future
They can't afford to lose another 565 million like they did with the 0 0 0 deal over two model years. Or the 20-30 million dollar sexual harrassment lawsuit in their Normal plant.
Don't forget Mitsu makes ships, planes, all sorts of electronics. Many items we know nothing of and obviously never see in the US. This looked to be the last bailout from Japan, what was it 200 Million to bail out the losses posted with its US operations? Chryslers percentage stake in the US operations, and management leading back to Germany. Was none too happy to pay it by themselves. They too have a vested stake in Mitsu. They planned to use drivetrains and share a common platform for new Dodge models, with the reported Lancer replacement. Maybe five different cars are planned off the same basic design and chassis.
Mitsu has nobody to blame but themselves in the US. Most customers can attest to that.
Doesn't matter if the products are on par or superior. **** poor customer service whether with the sale or warranty, maint., people won't stand for it. Too many other vehicle choices.
Myself, have bought three Mitsu's brand new, two in the last year. All 4G63 turbo powered. And have had 8 others,( Talons, Lasers, DSM's). Don't want to see them fold down as a company at all. Nobody wants the hassle of hunting down parts for their cars.

Anyway, proud to be that "somebody"
